I’ve seen a surprising lack of conversation about the possibility of space combat in Halo 4. Surely that one little level in Reach wasn’t enough to satisfy?
I can see it coming up quickly in the game, as early as the second or even first level. Perhaps in an attempt to escape while Seraphs and banshees harass you before you’re pulled into Requiem.
One thing I’d really, really like to see are War Sphinxes. Cryptum described them as being able to grapple with other fighters in space before slinging them into stuff. So perhaps there could be a grapple feature where, after downing a ship’s shields, you grab it and either crush it or sling it into another fighter or debris.
Thoughts?
After seeing the 0-G thruster pack from the trailer, I really want to do some 0-G fighting with chief. Multiplayer levels with 0-G would be great to. I don’t understand why a lot of people don’t want 0-G, it will add another dimension of gameplay, it could work similar to Dead Space.
I have a feeling we’ll see some of this in Spartan Ops as well.

No, not in multiplayer.
I really meant “Space combat” as “get in a Sabre/ Seraph/ Sphinx and fly around”, but actual zero-g man-to-freak combat would be cool too. It’d take some skill.

i wouldnt mind a small portion of space combat returning. For me the ammount they had in reach was satisfying enough. The reason I don’t want more space combat is that it would get repetitive and dull

How about if it had its own game type? Not having it in multiplayer at all would be a huge wast of such a feature. Custom games at least.

customs would be fine for space combat but not matchmaking because i dont think many people would play it and it would be a waste of time for 343 to make the gametype

You never know. Maybe a new Invasion-type gametype where you have to get aboard the other team’s ship and plant a bomb or something, using Pelicans to transport people to and from the ship, Sabres, War Sphinxes, Seraphs, etc. to protect them, and zero-g for getting to cracks in the hull to get to your objective.
It’d have to be a small ship, though. Covie-Corvette sized, maybe.
better have space combat in h4, thats all im saying
I would love to see a spinoff where the game is all space fight, like Elite, X3 or Freelancer but in the Halo Universe. After all, Space fights are best done in open, wide areas and when they take some skill, Reach offered neither. Auto-targeting unlimited rockets that eventually even would kill the shields by themselves, and a really small, narrow space area, not to mention no 3D gameplay, no “depth”.
Sure, it was nice but way to limited, Halo deserves something along the lines of Freelancer (which had a Halo mod btw) ^^
The one level in reach WAS NOT ENOUGH. Reach could have been so much better, if a space combat level could have been in MM or FF, hell even Invasion Slayer could have used it. Humans in Sabres and elites in Seraphs. In either MM or FF it would have been an excellent way of getting vehicle kills. Or imagine an invasion game where it took place in or on a covenant ship. Zealot should not have been the only level that took place on the Corvette. Such potential wasted.
Now maybe in Halo 4 this could be implemented, something epic like you in a sabre or other human space vehicle against hugely unfair odds.

THIS
Space combat was definitively fun in Star Wars Battlefront 2. Why not let it be successful in Halo 4 also?

that…is a rhetorical question with only one answer…it is…

I have actually seen 3 or 4 threads on it already, and I will say the same thing I always do.
While the space-combat in Reach was a lot of fun, the engine is not at all designed for super-fast giant space battles. The missions in Reach were rather short, but still took forever to load (hence the cutscenes being unskipable) Multiplayer space combat would take way more assets. Since the Halo 4 engine is based on the Reach one, I assume the same problems would occur. Look at BF3, it has huge levels but the maps are incredibly boring on the ground because they can’t have to much.
But I would love to see a standalone game of it, the only sci-fi space flight sims I know of are some old Star Wars games.
