Hey everyone I was just thinking about the Halo 4 soundtrack. Other than ‘‘117’’ I thought this OST was pretty generic and not very well implemented. Why didn’t 343 use the original Halo theme and following pieces. I really hope Halo 5 has the real Halo music, since they used it in the trailers. Sure Halo 4 marked the beginning of the Reclaimer saga, but at it’s core its still Halo.
At first I didn’t hate or love the H4 soundtrack, but after listening to it carefully, outside of the game, I have a lot more respect for it. The Neil Davidge pieces are the most un-Halo like, but still somehow manage to work. The Kazuma Jinnouchi cuts are outstandingly good. They’re not Marty, but that’s actually part of their appeal. He managed to write the right music without being a slave to Marty’s (incredible) legacy. That takes talent and balls.
I thought I heard somewhere that the H5G score will be entirely Jinnouchi’s project. It can’t be anything but good.
Also, don’t know if you know, but there is a second “disc” which is download only and has a lot more of Jinnouchi’s cuts. What you said originally made me suspect that you’ve only heard the first release - “117” is the only Jinnouchi cut on that disc.
Halo 4’s soundtrack was good, but it didn’t really have the classic Halo-y feel to it.

I had know idea there was a second disc and I do like the Jinnouchi composition of 117, so thanks for the info!
Now that I think about it a little more “To Galaxy” was pretty good, but the second “disc” was so,so much better than the original!
I just went back and listened to 117 again and I just realized at 6:11 the original Halo theme starts and right when it starts there is only 1:17 left of the track. Coincindence, I think not!
I really enjoyed the Halo 4 soundtrack. The remix competition was great, hopefully folk will still have some of their submitted tracks available as some were really good. I’d love to see a remix album come out for Halo 5

It wasn’t a bad soundtrack, but besides 117, it didn’t really feel like a Halo soundtrack and it didn’t tie in well with the missions, but that’s just my own opinion
