I don’t know if this is a known problem but during the cut scenes the voices are very muffled, everything is fine all the other times and with other games.
I’ve cleared my XBOX 360 cache and double checked my sound settings and everything is OK
I’ve got a Dolby Digital 5.1 setup and installed both discs to my XBOX 360 HDD
If you are an owner of an old/fat/arcade/jasper xbox 360, you will encounter these problems. The RAM on your xbox must be used up to a point that your xbox can’t handle Halo 4. I have tested Halo 4 on both consoles and my old xbox 360 could not run it right.
Bought a brand new halo 4 edition xbox last night and I’m having sound issues as well, cant be just on old xboxes. The voices are perfectly fine for me, its more certain sound effects sound quieter and low quality, like a really low bitrate mp3.
What happens with mine is that at random intervals throughout campaign and multiplayer the sound will cut out for a second or two, very very frustrating when theres a cutscene or dialogue during play!
I brought forth the issue on these very forums and have tried every suggestion and advice I have been given all to no avail.
I have a brand new xbox too, bought it the other day and my Halo 4 is the limited edition steel case copy. A new standard copy arrives tomorrow so will be able to see if it’s the disc or console both of which are in pristine condition.
I too am experiencing these odd low-fi sound effects. I have a 5.1 system, followed all previous suggestions and the audio is very muffled. They sound like sounds that should be playing through all the speakers but instead are mono, muffled and only coming through the center speaker. The game definitely shouldn’t sound like this. 250gb slim owned for one year.
yea sound was totally cutting out for me on cut scenes, i cleared my xbox cache and rebooted and so far its now ok,but ive only just restarted and played through one cut scene, hope it was only a cache problem, im using a non slim xbox and its about 2 years old…
During cutscenes, sound effects including music, ambient noise, and general sound effects sound muffled, like a low bitrate music file.
Dialogue and vocals tend to be unaffected. They play at lossless quality.
In game sound effects are unaffected.
Prerendered cutscene sound effects are unaffected.
In game engine cutscene sound effects are the only ones experiencing low bitrate qualities.
I have an Xbox 360 Elite (black). I will clear my cache and get back to you guys. I just finished installing it on my HDD. I am using a sound system as well except it is 2.1 running through a UMC-1, Dolby Digital processing. I tried regular stereo 2.1 processing and still had the same issues. It is not DD.

Same exact issue here except i’ve got Turtle Beach XP400s, which are 5.1. I noticed that the Dolby 5.1 LED is not lit up on the headset, which means it is not getting a Dolby Signal from the xbox. I DO have Dolby 5.1 selected in the XBOX settings.
Is this perhaps the issue? The game is not putting out Dolby 5.1 signal?
Well, firstly as I said my system is strictly 2.1 (no rear or center speakers). Just 2 fronts and a subwoofer.
The game is undoubtedly outputting Dolby Digital sounds. They are all processed under that algorithm and contain at least 2 channels and 1 lfe. The sounds however are either being processed incorrectly or were low bitrate from the start. This should be clarified by someone at 343. I am willing to provide as much information as possible in order for this issue to be resolved.
This is what my system looks like, you can see its only 2.1 (sorry for the blurryness):
I am also having weird sound issues with Halo 4. For me its in the Menu that im getting a weird Buzz or small fart type sound when Im scrolling through each menu item. Has anyone else noticed this?
Not only this - Im not sure if its the 360 dash or not, but the xbox also boots up and the Amp only showing that its outputting in 2.1!!! turn it off, then back on and comes up as 5.1. Has only happened twice, but I’ve never had this before.
Hi Thanks for the feedback, i don’t have an XBOX Slim but the hardware specs in each unit is eacactly the same now as an XBOX from 2005. I don’t think that would be the issue.
Seems more of a bug, especially now since a lot of people have complained about it.
Hopefully someone will see this topic and add it into the next patch.
I finished the campaign last night on legendary and the problem remained throughout its entirety. I’d love to replay it with the proper sound direction because I could tell it was supposed to be something greater. Please find a fix for this, 343. This is not isolated.
Same happened for me, i missed all the dialogue in the first encounter with the diadact dude…Dont know if i did not grasp the story due to that or because i have not read the books.
