HALO 4 SHOULD BE DARKER

The game should be more dark than any other in the series. ODST was a good start, where the feeling of loneliness could become quite substantial at times. I think it should be gorier, and less cartoon that the rest of the series. Although I agree it must keep the style halo has had thus far, it can maintain this style while giving the graphics less of a cartoon feel to them.

Suggestions anyone? What do you think could help make this game darker.
And if you disagree, give me some valid points =)
thankss!

Halo 4 and ODST will likely be worlds apart concerning the story and atmosphere. What may work for a detective novel in New Mombasa may not work for an action adventure in an unknown planet/construct.

Also, you can change the brightness via gameplay options.

darker like …batman the dark night is to superman returns…something like that

Haha, that’s not what i meant at all…im pretty sure you knew that though… I mean gorier, and more real, more intense.

Cortana is dieing and there is an unknown enemy… more or less i could see it to be a darker story

How about limbs being able to get blown off?

The only “darker” (kinda hate that term nowadays) elements that should be put into Halo 4, if they’re included, is a revamped Flood system. Seeing them move around, fight, assimilate, and infect should be a much more gruesome affair, much like what we saw in Breaking Quarantine in the Halo Graphic Novel.

Other than that, a more complex personality by Cortana given her situation with Rampancy would be nice, and perhaps even a bit of emotions by John-117 given that hey may well be fighting for nothing but his own survival.

Though when people refer to darker in the context of added gore, it really does nothing to the game but make everything stained with pools of blood. Disregarding the people who have to clean it up, Halo has never been like Gears of War or a hack and slash in that regard.

I want the game to scare me at some sections like the flood did in ce with whomever the enemy is being darker than the covies not literally but in their actions if that makes sense lol

Cortana isn’t dying.

Unless they have been adrift for several years, she’s really only a few months old. We see her in Reach. At that point she isn’t very old at all. The events of Halo CE, 2, and 3 take place within a few months of each other. So she’s likely less than a year old. Also take into account that she is the highest level tech AI that had been created. It’s possible that her life span would be longer.

Again, if she and Chief are adrift for years, then okay. What I see happening is the events of Halo 5 and 6 take place later, so she’ll start to reach rampancy at the end of 6. Hopefully that won’t mean Chief has to take her out though. That would be extremely sad.

I’m still holding out hope that she will integrate herself into Forerunner tech and won’t ever reach rampancy.

Yes I agree the game should be darker, If the flood are in, I want them to make you jump, I want their levels to be dark, I want them to make foul, ear piercing screams and screeches.

I want the background music to have occasional screams, and other nasty noises, that make you feel endangered and open for attack.

I want them to make you feel alone, vulnerable, they need to not be predictable, and there needs be parts of the game where they make you feel like you’re being chased, parts that make you feel nervous and anxious. Just in general, the flood need to be really like that in my mind.

In terms of gore, well, I don’t want limbs being blown off ect, but more blood, with good blood effects would be nice, although flood assimilation/infection can be pretty gruesome.

And yes, the story should be darker too. Feelings of loneliness and other similar emotions would add great atmosphere to the game.

But make sure it keeps within the age rating the game is at, although I wouldn’t mind the game being a full blown mature game, means more opportunity for darkness ect.

But either way, the game HAS to remain a Halo game at heart.

I want Halo 4 to have a really sad ending which actually makes the player sad and the chief too, which will lead into a Halo 5 where we get vengeance or something.

> which will lead into a Halo 5 where we get vengeance or something.

But not just any sort of run of the mill Walmart mass-produced vengeance…

Revengeance.

I agree with everything you said except for limbs…If I got someone with a sniper in the shoulder I’d be pretty happy to watch their arm blow off…or like a no scope headshot to blow off their head would be pretty damn rewarding.

By Darker, I don’t know if you mean darker as in scary and evil. Or graphics should be darker. both could work in Halo 4. I like the idea of the darker graphics, yes we aren’t running around in a city on earth trying to find the other ODSTs like in Halo 3 ODST, but Halo 4 is in an unknown part of the galaxy, on an unknown plant, it would be nice to see some dark parts in the level design, it’ll really give the game play a few twists and turns, going from a dark hall way or room, to a really bright room.

> Cortana is dieing and there is an unknown enemy… more or less i could see it to be a darker story

Yeah we will have a darker story than normal.

> How about limbs being able to get blown off?

No more gore you sick monkey.
I hate gore, the halo we have now has the perfect balance.

I understand what you mean by darker OP, which would be good for Halo to give it a more realistic war feel, but when making a games aesthetics darker you have to be very careful to not make the game a monochromatic mayhem, like CoD and Dead space.

I think that Halo 4 should have a wider color spectrum, but they should not be too colorful like CEA, which by the way was amazing, but in order to give Halo 4 that realistic gritty feel of war and discovery, it needs more metallic sheen and less pronounced colors in the area of metals and gun color. Just to lower the cartographic feel.

It would also be nice to see a more graphic Halo, with a little more swearing, casual and maybe explicit if need, and maybe some breakable environments along with some bloody battle styles of combat, Halo 4 would be so good if it were more like this.

Yeah I mean more evil, the things that happen should be terrifying and you should be able to feel it. perhaps an enemy that can’t be fought one on one chases you through a part of the level and the only thing you can do is try and avoid it while Yoinking! your pants…I want things to scream menacingly while they try to kill me and I want to see blood fly out of someones face when I put a 50 cal through it. Or blow off their arm when i shoot them with a shotgun. Graphics wise as well, more real. more gritty

Cortana was nearing the typical end-of-life cycle for an AI of her kind at the end of Halo 3. According to 343, we catch up with them in Halo 4 quite a while after that. Simply put, Cortana should already be rampant. However, she isn’t - a result most likely of the massive amount of information she has been exposed to.

Besides, we know almost nothing about how she actually functions. It may well be that Cortana’s experiences have led to a sort of immunity against rampancy. She could enter rampancy and return to a balanced state afterwards, or she could enter a permanent state of rampancy and require termination. We just don’t know.

only in campaign, i disliked reach’s multiplayer because of its dark graphics

I agree. H2 did a good job with this.

I hate gore too. Its fine what it is right now. Besides limbs blowing off highly durable Spartan with reinforce bone and body Armour is not realistic.
