There are a lot of unfilled details or explanations in halo 4 that I would like to have some validity about. For example how come Cortana has nano bots at her disposal and is able to upgrade MC’s armor to Mark 6**(???) yet he still has the same scratches and damage done to his armor from the previous instalments? Why was there a lack of UNSC air vehicles (apart from frigates and pelicans)when chief has been in cryo for multiple years, shouldn’t there been possibly new vehicles or upgraded hornets? For crying out loud we even get to see new covenant vehicles even though the main focus was on the prometheans. These are just some of the examples I can think of off the top of my head.**
I think “uncanny” isn’t the word you’re looking for. Most of what you’re talking about is just due to lazy, redacted, cut, or retconned writing.
There is new vehicles.
You’ve got the Mantis and Mammoth.
Not to mention is it broadsword?
Cortana doesn’t create or split into nano bots I’m sure she split her personality up in to the different pieces of hardware to override it. Think of it as being a split personality. (Haha)
As for the chief his armour got upgraded slightly but its not a complete new suit so it will have the same battle scars. Don’t forget as well, they was on a frigate which more then likely has the equipment to create and change Spartan armour and Cortana had what? 4 years and so many months to work freely on his armour while he was in his cryo state.
As for the air vehicles all I can say is they didn’t need it as the Spartans taking part in SpartanOps are supposed to be undercover and generally on foot to get into places and steal pieces of information and technology as you’d see if you played SpartanOps.
I would have loved to have seen them but they probably just mass produced pelicans with all the new spartans going around and they have some serious firepower on them.
Sorry if I got any of this wrong but this is what I see.

I don’t know, there were Spartan pilots in the UNSC Air Force.

We may might have not seen them because the way to story or SpartanOps played? Most of the time you going into an area and then staying in side for a bit.
Either way I hope they bring back air combat in 5.

Because it wasn’t nanobots.
Nanobots would totally have been a good explanation, and I wish they would’ve went there, but AFAIK they just retconned the armor. The armor he wears in Halo 4 is the armor he’s always been wearing, and every other SPARTAN-II (that survived long enough to see it made) wore it, too.

True!
And the damaged ship (FUD) is completely changed, too!
The cryo tubes are different, the room in which they’re in is completely redesigned, the warthogs that fell from the FUD are different, etc…
It was a new design team, they changed a lot of things…
(I can’t even think of how different the Arbiter would look if they brought him back)

Oh man, I always took the “nanobot upgrade” theory as fact, even though I never really found the source in game. Thanks for the clarification.
343 definitely missed the mark (pun intended) on this one.
This is a personal note, but I’m only okay with retcons if they improve things… this retconned armor I do not see as any kind of improvement, and more change for the sake of a new artistic vision.
I think it was stated in glasslands that the mjolnir armor had nanotechnology that allowed to be updated even in cryogenic sleep

According to the halo 4 visual guide, it was actually nanobots.
Chief’s new appearance is based on an early version of the MKIV armor apparently. Which makes the scene of the Spartan 2’s fighting elites at the start of halo 4 make slightly more sense.
