As title, is the season pass worth it? And if so, why? Presumably it’s worth it if I end up buying all the DLC anyway? Since I’ll save cash?
Answered your own question my friend, you will definitely save cash if you just buy the pass 
You are saving money if you decide to buy the pass now rather than using points to buy the map packs separately.
While purely cosmetic, if you want two new helmets and emblem w/pre paid access to the 3 map packs, then the War Games pass is a viable possibility to consider.
Basically its guaranteed access to the DLC for one pre paid price. They are usually cheaper then buying the DLC’s individually. The DLC will most likely have to be downloaded through the game on release as through the marketplace they will still charge you.
However from personal experience i’ll give it a miss this time around.

I believe so, the Map Pass will be available post launch. Of course and obviously, it’s going to set you back a few points (not sure of the total though; 1200 or 2000 MP)

Yes. usually they last until the first DLC is out, or something along them lines.
Not sure if it’ll go away but I’d imagine it wouldn’t.

As a matter of interest, what’s the point of keeping it available for ever? Surely a better commercial strategy would be to keep it available until the 1st DLC is released, because if the season pass was available until they’re all out no one in their right mind would pay for each separately…

I just checked Gears of War 3, the season pass for that game is still there and it was released ages back, no reason to think Halo 4 would be any different.
YES! If you are going to buy any Halo 4 DLC ever, just buy the season pass now. If a lot of people have the season pass, It’ll make it more likely for the DLC to remain playable after the DLC playlists get retired. Besides, it’s a good deal. DLC Halo map packs always have some of the best maps in the game, it would be nice for the majority of the player base to support them. Or at least we need enough purchases to justify the existence of a permanent Season Pass playlist.
