Something I just thought of, 343 says that the covenant will make “some sort” of a return in Halo 4. Does this mean “Ex-Covenant” aka the Elites are back?
If so, I hope that the Arbiter makes a return as the second player in the Campaign.
Since it’s been 5 years, and the Halo 3 Arbiter was…uhm…how can I put this gently? “A Bit of a Chump” (C’mon guy’s he was skinnier/smaller than all the Elites in Halo 3).
I hope that they change up his appearance a bit, a example would be the Arbiter in Halo Wars. I mean seriously, THAT’S A ARBITER. He was big, and even still pretty fast.
I hope that they up the size of the current Arbiter, and at least make him as wide and big as Chief unlike in Halo 3.
He really has no place in Halo 4 though. There is brewing discontent on his homeworld, the Loyalist Brutes are still poking around and so on. Save some things for the next games, not everything has to be thrown into Halo 4.

This is true, but if there’s no Elites, and no Arbiter, who the hell are our Co-Op Characters going to be for Campaign?
343 Better NOT make Halo 4’s Campaign Single-Player, or they WILL receive hate mail.

Extra Chiefs? That worked well for every other game sans Halo 3.

Yeahhh…but that’s really awkward…I mean seriously? 4 Master Chief’s running around is really weird. Sure, it worked in the other Halo’s, but that was before the Human’s worked with the Elites…although if the Co-Op character’s where ODST’s or randomly numbered Spartans, I could live with that.
I hope the Arbiter returns, and not just as co-op, but in his own missions like he did in Halo 2.
> I hope the Arbiter returns, and not just as co-op, but in his own missions like he did in Halo 2.
GASPS OMFG! What if it was like a double campaign? You play as Chief while he’s on the planet by himself, and then you’d switch to the Arbiter to find out what he’s been up to?
THIS.WOULD BE.EPIC.
> I hope the Arbiter returns, and not just as co-op, but in his own missions like he did in Halo 2.
It’s not his story. 343 have been pretty dead set on the concept that this is Chief’s story. The Arbiter doesn’t really even have a reason for being around.

Uhm…“Doesn’t have a reason for being around”, dude the Elites WORK with the human’s now dude. Cortana even said that she’d send out a beacon for people to find her and Chief. What if the Elites show up?
True, but it would be pretty cool to see the post Human-Covenant war era from the eyes of the Sangheili. I’d be fairly disappointed if Halo 4 didn’t go into this at all.
And I know that this is supposed to be Chief’s story, but I really liked the Arbiter missions from Halo 2. It added a new depth to the story that was missing from Halo 3 and Reach.

No they don’t. Halo: Grasslands makes this pretty clear. The humans and Elites might not be killing each other, but they aren’t sharing technology or even working together in some grand fashion. And yes, Cortana laid out a beacon. That was years ago in the Halo timeline. They are in an unknown part of space drifting towards an unknown world.
Tell me how any ship just coincidentally showing up because after a few years they just magically find the beacon makes the least bit of sense.
He’s not the Arbiter anymore…

Hmm lets see here, oh yes, it’s a VIDEO GAME. It doesn’t have to make sense.

A lot of people are invested in the plot of the series, so yes it has to make sense.
> I hope the Arbiter returns, and not just as co-op, but in his own missions like he did in Halo 2.
Yes yes yes! But it is too late for that. That should have been in Halo3, which one of the reasons the campaign felt short.
I don’t think the Arbiter would really fit in with this game.
3 Spartan-IV or Marines from the start.

I disagree with you that the Arbiter has no place in Halo 4. He’s too significant of a character at this point to leave out.
However, having him as a co-op character would require him being there from the beginning and that would be kind of dumb. I see nothing wrong with him playing a critical role in Halo 4, but he shouldn’t appear until later in the game (if he makes an appearance at all).
Co-op character were only ever really partially canon for Halo 3. Generally speaking, there’s zero problem with the co-op characters not being canon…because co-op isn’t canon…

Im glad you brought that up, ive come to a conclusion and i think its a good one. I noticed, why have warthogs in the campaign, if no marines to drive it? There has to be humans with a fully loaded ship. Now what ship do we all know and love that is slowly coasting through space back to earth with no ftl drive and a cryo-ed crew so theyd make the trip? Thats right, maybe it will be the Spirit of Fire…?
