Hey guys I don’t often give my opinion on Halo Subjects however I felt this one really needs to be forced down 343’s virtual throat!
First off, halo reach was not as successful in online game play to Halo 3 and 2 for one reason! The ranking system (Arena) is terrible!!!
Halo 2-3 was awesome for 50 reasons!! Now please stop the stupidity and bring back the old ranking system. We loved and for the most part it was an awesome way to determine skill. 4 needs that same style of game play! We want it! The consumer always wins guys!
FYI kill the bloody Jet Packing in ranked games as well! Arena should be sprint and that is it! Do it and watch the numbers of players in arena Jump!!!900 a night is sad! I mean really sad…Halo 3 was rocking 25k in ranked slayer alone a night!! wtf happened guys?? I mean it has to be crystal clear we hate the current rankings! We hate most armor abilities…We really hate the DMR! Remember the draw card is the challenge, some people may never make 50 but the joy and addiction was the challenge to make it! Heck it took me 2 freaking years to get my first 50 in 3! Yes there was cheating…SO WHAT!! Most did not cheat and you could always tell a cheater anyway! I loved kicking a fake 50’s butt!
Now MY idea…
Keep the divisions just add the 1-50 to each one.
So once you make 50 in silver you move up to gold as a 1. Worst rank 1 Iron…Best Rank 50 Onyx.
That would be freaking awesome!
Also some online tournaments would be really fun! 100k credits to winner.
Halo Reach entered in the middle of the CoD era, while Halo 3 was consistently top dog. That has more to do with the population than gameplay. I don’t think everyone playing CoD instead of Halo right now would come sprinting back into Reach matchmaking if someone yelled “Hey guys! Jetpacks are gone and there’s a 1-50 ranking system again!”
I do like the idea of combining divisions and 1-50 though, it’d be interesting.
I am not putting down your idea because in theory it does sound good. However, I just want to see 343 play it safe and have 1-50 ranks + Credit rank. Make the 1-50 ranks harder than H3 but easier than H2. Once again however, in theory your idea does sound like it would work.
> Halo 3 was rocking 25k in ranked slayer alone a night!!
That 25k was based upon 24 hours and Reach’s numbers are based upon the time that you are reading it. So Reach beats Halo 3 still in popularity.
Reach has around 8k of people playing team slayer or 10k for swat or 14k for living dead
all at the same time not 24 hours.
So carry that over 24 hours and you have a lot of people playing Reach.
They need to bring back the 24 hour clock so people stop moaning about how no one plays Reach because it sucks. I still have more players than Halo 3 did at its time but Reach also has huge competition (3 CODS BF3 and Skyrim).
I love reach btw and the only problems I have with it a are people moaning all the time about nothing.
Don’t get me started with AA’s.
PS: I will not be returning to this page as I can’t be bothered arguing but I am just stating the facts (and some opinions).
PPS: 343 don’t listen to these people do want you want!!!
IMO: 1-50 for skill based rank, cR system for experience rank (for buying armor and stuff) 1-50 is represented in game lobbies, cR rank is only in player stats.

It also seemed like Reach tried to compete for the millions of players CoD somehow gets, rather than stick with its already impressive fanbase. As a result, Reach got niether.
BTW, OP, I think you really failed to analyze why the arena system didn’t work. I really doubt simply adding 1-50 would fix anything.
One major issue was the lack of immediate results. Players HAD to wait a week to find out where they were. While you end up with the same ranking in either set up, a H2-3 like ranking system allows players to rank up when they want.
The ranking system also offers no progression. While the two are closely related, and ranking system is almost always a measure of progression- not skill. Placing players into their division without letting them watch that number slowly creep up greatly diminishes the feeling of achieving something.

I think you would be surprised how many people would play if a 1-50 ranking system was implemented.
