I don’t want this to sound like a complain thread because I absolutely love Halo 4 and think its as good as Halo 3 and not far off from being as good as Halo 2.
However, there is one thing that sort of disappoints me. How quick its going to be to get to SR-130. Back in Halo 3 to get from 1 exp to a 5 star took me around two years to get to. In Reach it took me ages to level up and and in its lifespan of 2 years I only got to a nova. Now in H4 we haven’t even gotten through the first week and I’m already a sr-45 and have many people on my list who are sr-50+.
In Halo 4 I’m probably going to hit max level in 2 months. Which is too fast and takes away from the longevity of the game. I really hope they either add more ranks or make it much harder to level up. So 343 that so far is my only complaint about H4 otherwise you guys have made a great game.
Edit 11-24-2012
As I’m writing this the highest level someone’s at is SR-124 and will most likely hit max rank tomorrow. Thats a whopping 20 days after the game was released and someone has already hit max rank. In Reach however, I believe the first person to reach Inheritor took 1+_years if I’m not mistaken. I’m wondering what 343 is thinking… Maybe they’re going to add 70 levels and make it go to SR-200. What do you guys think??
The reason you rank up fast is because the main ranking is not skill based like Halo 3.
The reason it took you 2 years to get to a 5 star is because it was skill based and you could go up and down based on your skill. Halo 4 is based on how much you play. The more you play, the faster you rank.
doesn’t it reset or add with each specialist you chose? I thought their were 9 different specialist things to complete and most of them have not been released yet?

Ah so thats how it works. I’ve been trying to figure that out for a while now. lol Thank you.

The flip side is that people who aren’t very good but still love the game get frustrated when they can’t level up. Those people are still customers and as a business it’s in 343i’s best interest not to lose them.

Kids these days rarely know how to have fun in video games without having a “rank” to work towards.
I remember the good ol’ days of gaming when there was little concern for obtaining a rank or online status. You just played to have fun, and then stopped playing because you got bored.
People liked playing Halo hours on end back then with no ranking system because it was a new game. Now, it’s a decade old and it’s, essentially, still the same game so obviously we need more incentive to keep playing.
This is where a ranking system comes in.
I’m tired of all the “I remember when kids played for fun” and all the “I remember when kids used to roll a wooden hoop down a dirt road with a Yoinking! stick” quotes.

Wait, what?
10x80? There’re only 8 Specializations, not 80.
8 specs, 10 levels in each of them. This means getting to level 10, 8 times.
I hear these levels are comparable to level 40-50.
i liked the halo 3 Ranking because we had a skill based ranking. if you won you can progress your level, if you lose a match you can lose a level.
i hope they bring something like this back in a patch or something

that was a typo, as clearly the information was correct in the first half of my post.
The real ranking system doesn’t come out until early 2013. This is nice because we can finish up all our specializations and be ready to get level 50 competitive rank.
