Halo 4 playlists; and a little rant.

Since we don’t know too much about how the matchmaking system will work in Halo 4; lets speculate as to what the best system would be in terms of playlist hoppers!

I’d imagine something similar to Halo 2/3

Social and Competitive variants of playlists. However I personally think that 343 should do some trimming down in comparison to what Reach offered. The reason I say this is due to how split the community truly was in terms of populated playlists. Now, that can of course be attributed to the TU which changed some, and had to even create another playlist. However in my opinion playlists like Griffball, Living Dead should be melded into the Action Sack playlist. Let’s be honest, playing those quirky customs were fun in Halo 2/3- some became quite popular, but I don’t think they really deserve their own permanent playlists. Do I have a justifiable reason? Not really.

Regardless, I’d imagine that 343 will split the two player groups and give them their own sandbox to play in. Once again this begs the question to ask; will different variants of game-types be featured within one shared playlist or two separate ones? For example let’s think about “classic” Slayer and it’s Halo 4 counter part “Infinity” Slayer. Do you think they should be put into the same playlist and players vote on which they want to play? Or do they get their own playlist; which IMO would create a -Yoink- ton of playlists and pull a Reach (fragmenting the community instead).

Which brings out a little rant I suppose. With so much ability to customize options being advertised with Halo 4, how many different types of the same game are we going to be seeing? Don’t get me wrong in saying I’m not willing to embrace the new features of the game, I just don’t want each playlist being different, like Reach. Perhaps I’m just a Halo 2 fan-boy and got use to the no veto system (Which I actually enjoy). By that I mean if I wanted to play Team Slayer, it was Team Slayer. Of course early in the game , I believe pre 1.1 there was Team Slayer, Team Slayer BRs, Team Swords and Team Snipers, (Maybe rockets) in RANKED Team Slayer. Now this of course later changed and it became all BR.The idea of playing Team Slayer and being forced to play something that has other features that I dislike (Infinity Slayer for example) chaffs my -Yoink- cheeks. Especially if its ranked. It’s like playing Rumble Pit in Reach and getting Dino Slayer 20 times in a row, or AR’s on Countdown. Too many choices trying to accommodate the community. Though I haven’t played the game, I know I dislike the idea of ordnance drops in terms of how we’ve seen them in Halo 4 videos. Back on point though, are we going to see this kind of system?

Social

Team Slayer/Infinity
FFA/Regicide
Objective
BTB
*New gametypes/modes
Action Sack

Competitive

Team Slayer
Infinity Slayer
OBJ
FFA/Regicide
BTB
Swat
Snipers
MLG

etc etc

Or in Ranked are the different variants going to be lumped into their “home”. All obj “classic” and “New” thrown into one and the users vote for which type they want.

Discuss.
