There’s always been discussion (argument) about how good or not Halo Reach was compared to Halo 3, etc etc. But what both of them, and Halo 2 and Halo CE before them did was NOT penalise people who took time to use stealth for something other than corner camping with a shotgun.
A typical scenario. Standard 4 v 4 match, and one of the enemy team has a sniper. You’ve avoided the main fight and worked your way around the edges, running when it’s safe and sneaking when it’s not. Now, finally, you’re in their base. And, glory be, just the little sniper all on his own, not even bothering to check his back. Oh, what’s that Mr Knife? Stab stab stab? GOOD IDEA!
Many are the times when a careless sniper, or even person with a scoped weapon, has been taken down by a wonderfully sneaky approach.
Or, should I said, WERE the times. Because that USED to happen, and now it doesn’t.
What happens now is that you go in for the kill and an enemy team-mate will instantly respawn from dying, and murder you before you get to do anything. Or, more likely, no one ever sits still anymore. All there is is a rolling respawn-ball that drops Ordanance as it goes. There is literally no point to sneaking anymore, at least in standard Slayer. Team Snipers (after it’s first, godawful itteration) is the only haven of anything that feels vaguely familiar to the Halo’s past, where patience and tactics will actually give you a valid edge over the standard campers and snap-shotters (not saying those don’t have their time and place, mind you)
Am I the only one that feels this way? I’m not talking about your garden variety camping here (which has pretty much always been despised as far as I can remember, heh) but using stealth to get close and ruin the enemies day, or take a sniper out, etc.
