This has probably been brought up on here before but I couldn’t find anything.
I uploaded a Halo 4 video to youtube today and it was instantly blocked worldwide by a supposed copyright claim over the visual content by the french television station Canal Plus.
I know that it is an automated process but why the hell would it think canal plus has anything to do with halo?
I had to dispute the claim and it temporarily makes the video viewable until they can determine whether or not the block should stay in place. I know there was a whole thing about not making money from any Halo 4 videos etc but how does it ever hurt a game developer for people to upload gameplay videos for free? It’s basically a whole lot of free advertising, right?
The only time they might want videos blocked is when the game is total rubbish and they don’t want people to see how bad it is until they have already bought it. Somehow I don’t think Halo 4 will have to worry about that.
A lot of people also go to youtube and check out gameplay videos, since some trailers never show actual gameplay, and then go out and buy the game.
If somebody from 343 could leave a reply with the facts about the whole canal plus youtube thing, whether it’s total bollocks or whether it’s a legitimate claim etc, that would help clear up a lot of confusion.
