So I’ve been really thinking about the things that can ruin Halo 4 for me. Their are two big things and one has already been heavily talked about by others and that is Aim Acceleration. I know that it’s in I just hope it isn’t really bad and doesn’t kill my experience. To me their is something bigger. The matchmaking system. I’m not talking about 1-50 or EXP rank of anything like that. I’m just talking about the actual action of the game matching you with other players.
In Halo Reach it’s like an all out random fest. I always go into matchmaking alone and get paired up with randoms paired against full teams. It’s always me and and 3 lower ranks vs. 4 high ranks. It’s like the system doesn’t even try to do anything other than find a match. Not only does it suck because the full team with teamwork is always going to wreck me and my randoms. Not only that but they also get to win the map vote every time. SO they to wreck us on their favorite maps.
Halo 4 needs to match randoms with randoms and teams vs teams or at least try until it’s taking too long to find a match. This pic fully describes how I feel about Reach.
inb4 Play with a full team.
Halo 4 needs an amazing ranking system that is team based. Half of Reach’s problems would be gone if a good ranking system had been implemented in it.
That’s one of my least favourite things in Reach because I play objectice mainly and i’m always getting paired up against full high ranked teams while I get a full team of random hur durs
so I hope that they do something to ensure fair teams in Halo 4s match making.
Also nice pic, lol.
Beautifully written and totally correct. 70% of my games in Reach had at least 3 people that were no where near my skill level (Be it above or below) and this is a serious issue.

Ideal matchmaking is something every multiplayer developer has been striving for for decades. Don’t expect it to get much better. There’s too many circumstances to place players in a match in a timely manner while still maintaining accurate matchmaking. Friends party up with players of varying skill levels. Matching accordingly doesn’t always function correctly. It’s also difficult to account for which players perform better on which maps, with which weapons, against what type of players, et cetera.
I’m sure they’re trying their best, but it’s just not something that’s been perfected yet. The more cool, new features they add, the more difficult it becomes to account for in the matchmaking process.
yesterday in reach i played a slayer match against a team that had 3 inheritors and my team the highest ranking player was me and im only a General G4 and we got obliterated WTF

And won’t be for at least another 20 years…

Im with you 100%
Except im on the other team That’s Vs. you with all the high Ranks .
Yes a great Match making system is needed as is a great Ranking system .
Nah man, that would mean people would actually have to wait to find matches which is unthinkable.
You know, if 343 can’t do significantly better than Reach with their matchmaking system I am all for re-adopting the server-browser model that such great games as Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon used back in their day (before the stupids overpopulated the military shooter genre.) Quite frankly compared to what we’ve had from Bungie I’m much more willing to trust random probability to give me a well balanced experience simply because adding any selective process, before my own judgement, is going to bias that process and only under ideal conditions is that bias going to work in a positive way.
Other times, well the dysfunction is simply going to select your based on poor indicators or around poor parameters, which will at best replicate random probabilities (which can work for most people because the “normal” player, being the most populous, has the highest probability of being matched with like individuals. And for all the exceptions you have a perfectly servicable quit button to try your luck again) though only so long as the indicators and parameters prove meaningless. If they have meaning, but don’t select players based on a useful criterion you’ll likely be thrown into a worse match (either being above or below your ability) than you would have had under any other practical system because where the system thinks you should be and the match you actually deserve will be in some way skewed, and on top of that skewed consistently.
So there’s a lot working against 343, here, with any form of matchmaking. Hopefully they can work something out, but like I said I’d also be satisfied if they scrapped it all and went for the older, more robust, system instead.
That pic is exactly why my quit bans total up to 2 hours as of last time I quit. I don’t play with teams that don’t have a clue to whats going on.
That picture right there says what words cannot about how…frustrated i feel in Halo Reach when searching against players. It’s absolutely random thanks to lax true skill system and low population (even more so in less populated playlists).
Even in a team of decent friends, you usually get more one sided matches with the occasional players but even that is random. In the end, the competitive player is going to become bored (no challenge) and casual player will become frustrated (going -20 and being spawn trapped constantly). Unless they love Halo to an extreme, they will most likely move on and quit the game for another experience.
I hope for Halo 4 that not only is it made clear that the trueskill is organizing players by skill (why make it invisible in the first place? It’s not a mark of shame you know.) and that there is workable ranking system.
> yesterday in reach i played a slayer match against a team that had 3 inheritors and my team the highest ranking player was me and im only a General G4 and we got obliterated WTF
This is the exact stuff I’m talking about. This should never happen and you should continue searching. I’d rather take another 3-5 minutes to find a match than get stuck in a 7+ minute match that happens to be a blowout.
Same I hate getting put with loads of warrant officiers and the other team is generals+ and their not even in parties. its as if they expect me to win using warrant officiers (some are good but the one I get put with suck) just because Im a high rank
its impossible for me to win unless I get good games I hope the fix that to at least balance the teams roughly (mediam ranks vs high&low ranks)
agreed. in any online game ive played im always matched up with a team that does poorly and pitted against people that are terrible. the only thing i miss from halo 3 is that match making brought a challenge of people. and decent teams even when searching by myself
