Halo 4 Needs to be New and Old

Should Halo Be New? As in a place for people new too the franchise (Like Halo Reach). Or should it be Old? As in a place where only Skilled, Wise, Knowledgeable veteran players can come and enjoy. (Like Halo 3).

The Question is not that of which we must decide, the question should instead be…

> Why can’t they do both at the same time?

I once thought that too… But then I took an arrow to the knee.

All jokes aside, I Think that they really should do both. Bring in all new characters and environments, etc.

But at least leave Inside jokes, and easter eggs, and hidden stuff, that only us more veteran players would understand. Have flashbacks or Cameos of old characters, and leave little references in that that let us old timer fans (Fans for more than 11 years) know that that these newer halo games may be different and new, but their still the same old humorous, fun, and addicting games that we remember.

Think of the Halo Franchise like a tree.

The older it gets, the better it looks, and the bigger it gets, and the bigger it gets the more roots it lays, these roots become the past, and the tree is the present, and its leaves are the future. It gets new fresh leaves all the time, While the tree itself is always growing, shedding and changing, While it Leaves behind a deeper history of roots into the soil… And without Roots the Tree dies…

So in other words a tree with no roots(Past) will not survive. While a Tree with lots of Roots flourishes!

A game that has a Rich, deep, and compelling past and an incredible history established for itself, but does not tap into it, at all, is like a tree with no roots…

My Younger Self: Is it good to seek the past, Future self? Does it not rob the present?

My Older Self: Listen Closely Past Self… If a man dwells on the past, then he robs the present. But if a man ignores the past, he may rob the future. The seeds of our destiny are nurtured by the roots of our past.

Good read. Not exactly sure what the moral of the story is, but I like it.

I love your analogy with the Tree. It really captures everything this community is.

I feel like I’m listening to forest gump going on about his life. :expressionless:

But you are right, throw in the references 343.

> I love your analogy with the Tree. It really captures everything this community is.

Well, if in that analogue the roots keep reaching up and lighting the new leaves on fire…

and I’m a skilled, wise, knowledgeable veteran player back from Halo: CE. Yet, I liked Reach the most. How does that work?

Not to offend or anything, but were you/are you lacking in the Skill department? I don’t mind Reach that much, but I can never put a game ever above H3 and maybe H2.

Most of my friends that played H3 and enjoyed it with me but weren’t the best of players absolutely love Reach for its playability and just altogether enjoyment without needing to be skilled and they liked H3 for that too with the massive variety of customs you could conjure up. That’s how, even with the huge flaming from “MLG Pros”, Reach stayed somewhat alive…
