All of these threads declaring for which Halo game should Halo 4 best resemble, I feel, are a little pointless. 343i have been working on the game for quite a while now and I think they’ve got the basic gameplay mechanics pretty much down now.
Letting Halo 4 be Halo 4 also lets us know how truly capable 343i is with game development. Halo CE was Halo CE, Halo 2 was Halo 2, Halo 3 was Halo 3, and Reach was Reach. If 343i is to truly shine, Halo 4 needs to be Halo 4, while following in the footsteps of its predecessors.
If we just let 343i simply copy/paste other Halo games as Halo 4, then we really wouldn’t know how 343i can take a new Halo game and make it its baby. We’d be just be letting them have the easy way out of making a Halo game.
Though I will stress that NO BLOOM is an absolute necessity for the success and continuity of Halo 4 multi-player.

Halo 4 needs inovation, I don’t want a Halo 1/2 copy with pretty graphics, we got that in Halo CEA. 343 needs to see what Bungie did wrong with Reach and find ways to make Halo 4 appeal to more gamers without taking out qualities that fans expect. For example, Halo is not a class-based game, and custom classes did not flow smoothly in the formula. I would instead like to see abilities like Sprint and Evade as a button function (where evade would be quick stafes to left and right rather then massive leaps) and abilities like Jetpack and such becoming equipment. I would like to see player-made custom lobbies so casual players can play with their own rules and more hardcore players can play for rank in Ranked lobbies. I want Halo 4 to be unique, but still be Halo.

This, but Halo 4 can’t change too much like what Reach did.

See, like this.
These are pretty bad ideas. You make that the game, trying to be innovative, and you have yet another failure.
If you already have something people like, why are you changing it? You can only fail.

That’s walking down the Call of Duty road, and look what happened to that franchise. Sure, my concept may be bland, but I expect the 343 team to come up with more in depth ideas that what I thought up on the spot. If we never changed anything from Combat Evolved, then Halo would not have duel wielding, Theater and Forge, equipment, Firefight, and so on. I’m not saying it should completely change everything and ruin it’s formula, that is partly why Reach went downhill. I’m saying that the game should not be Halo CE/2 clones and be able to surprise me and excite me and ways the series hasn’t before.

You can thank Activision’s marketing for that, they have made it ‘cool’ to play Call of Duty. Ask any fan of the titles and they will tell you that MW3 is mediocre compared to its predecessors. If they continue on this road of lousy games, then CoD will be milked out just as Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk was before.
It’s funny how halo fans criticize cod by saying “they come out with the same game every year” (which is true)and yet, they want the same thing to happen to Halo 4. The OP is right, halo 4 needs to be its own game, but keep the halo formula. If you want a game that plays like halo 2, then go play halo 2.If you can’t find anybody to play with, then thats your problem not 343’s.
If halo 4 is like halo 4 then it dosen’t mean it will be good does it? And OP I would love halo 4 to add new things but, I would like a modified halo 3 more then something new and total yoink, as long as the new things that are added work I am happy because halo 3 was an improvement from halo 2 and halo 2 was an improvement from halo 1, they all kept the same style of gameplay and they were all great but reach added alot of new things and most of the new ideas made the game worst
In other words, small additions that make the game feel like halo and be amazing to play>>>>>>>>> a million new things that make the game like no other halo but plays like blam
I agree with every word you said. It needs to be an awesome new experience, but still be Halo (Sandbox weapons, balanced gameplay, diverse enemies, etc.) Yes Yes Yes
If everything was exactly like their predecessors because they were better (for that time period mind you), then games in general would stagnate and get boring. We need innovation coupled with all the best features from the previous games to make an experience that’s better. Like I love Halo CE and all but in this time it wouldn’t hold up its own anymore because there’s not enough innovation that newer games have.
Halo 4 needs the best of all the Halo features, weapons, items, vehicles to make it an unstoppable behemoth of a game. Plus a longer campaign and more in-depth story because I’m seriously getting tired of those who say that Halo has no story.

It’s the most successful video game title of all time, with the widest player base?

I speak for the millions of Halo fans to say that we will NEVER deal with that terrible abomination known as “Bloom” ever again. Remove it from the franchise FOREVER. That is all.

That is a catastrophe because apparently modern gamers want the same thing rehashed year after year.

No, but Reach was. We need to get the population back, and trying to innovate would be detrimental.
People used to buy a Halo game simply because Halo was in the title. I can’t see that happening any longer after Reach.
