Halo has the classics: capture the flat, oddball, assault, infection, territories etc. but it doesn’t really have any really new gametypes. Of course, Headhunter and Stockpile were new, but Stockpile wasn’t all that great, and it was too easy to abuse.
I hope Halo 4 brings new gametypes to the table, ones which are great fun, and totally original.
The problem with introducing new gametypes is that they have to work in Halo (i.e. you can’t just pick gametypes from other games to use, SnD doesn’t work well outside of CoD and CS for example), and that most gametypes have already been done, or can be done by modifying gametype settings. Sure, Headhunter and Stockpile were new, but neither of them really worked well TBH. I don’t actually think I’ve played Stockpile since the Beta. And remember Invasion? That worked too.
The only really new idea I can see working for Halo might be a return of the VIP gametype, but re-vamped in some way, or some kind of variation of Slayer, where you are given a target to kill, and, upon killing them, are given a new target, and you only get points for killing your target.
stockpile, headhunter and invasion. reach brought 3 new game types. yea stockpile isn’t that great but headhunter is fun and invasion is awesome. Halo 4 i hope will have a really awesome gametype. But i mainly play team slayer and swat anyway
Invasion was a great idea, but implemented badly. I would love it if they put in a sort of tower defense game based around a large Elephant. The attackers had to drive the defenders Elephant to the other side of the map or something, while the defenders started on the Elephant at the beginning of the game, and have to try and keep control.
Defend the elephant shall be created. This would probaly be a bad gametype because of how slow the elephant moves. It would take for ever to get across a large map. It was porly used in halo 3 it was on 1 map sandbox and the only time i went near it was fi i had a group of friends who wanted to look increadiblt stupid for using the worst viechal ever.
