One thing we saw in Reach that I abhorred was how many different settings there were for the different playlists. I am willing to accept change in game play for a new halo game but I do not want to see different settings for every different playlist they will be rolling out. This waters down the game play and revives that idiotic line “you’re only good in that playlist!”
Now I do not mean take out swat, snipers, BTB or any dedicated playlists such as these. But I would rather not see playlist for sprint, playlist without sprint, playlist for TU, playlist for classic halo, playlist for halo 3 fans, playlist for halo 2 fans etc… Make the gameplay universal throughout matchmaking and then create different objective playlist such as BTB, snipers, swat, objective, slayer etc. similar to previous halo games. Too many different settings will split the community further and halo 4 will never quite find its own identity among all of the different split settings.
I just want ranked playlists with competitive settings. (meaning no sprint, no AA’s No “perks”)

Believe be Jonny I definetly want a ranked playlist as well, which I DO believe 343 is going to be implementing in some form. However, if everyone has sprint and that is the only AA that is available to you I wouldn’t mind it as much. As long as evade, jetpack, and the rest of them aren’t available as well.
Totally agree. There should be one kind of core gameplay throughout, and multiple game modes. The TU is great and all, but I don’t like that it divides the game even further. If you’re going to make a change, make it universal.
what do you mean homoegenous? The problem with Reach is that it was too homogenous and didn’t have any playlist that were competitive or skillful, hence the need for the TU to please competitive and skilled players. IMO There needs to be the “casual” Reach-esque gameplay and then competitive gameplay that is established by things as simple as turning off sprint, reducing weapons, BR starts, and possible alterations to weapon spawns instead of having the make drastic changes such as altering the bloom, bleed through, melee damage, or the way power ups function. That was the problem which Reach, you couldn’t play it competitively without making serious fundamental changes. I mean look how much MLG Had to change the game to make a half decent competitive shooter.
H4 needs to be able to have a very smooth transition from “casual” and “fun” gameplay into skillful and competitive gameplay.
edit: To be clear, this is at the fault of the way Reach’s gameplay was designed, not the way the playlists were setup.
