Unless Spartan Ops is some kind of survival mode, or if we get to fight bots in customs, Halo 4 will still need to have some kind of survival mode to keep offline fans busy, a mode that lets us kill AI enemies all day long if we can survive that long.
These Spartan Ops “episodes” seem like a lot of fun, but what happens when they stop coming? Will they still be fun 2 years after Halo 4’s launch? Firefight is what brings me back to ODST and Reach sometimes. What will bring offline fans back to Halo 4 after a couple of years?
I haven’t seen where they specifically say no firefight. The article said no plans for dedicated firefight, but does that mean that it’s completely gone?
Yeah I know what you mean OP. Spartan Ops sounds good but it sounds a lot like we’re dependent on the stream of new missions, whereas Firefight is just something we can jump into whenever we like. Maybe Firefight is part of Spartan Ops, just as ever we don’t have enough information.
Let’s see, if each mission came out every week for about 6 months, each with a half hour of gameplay, at about 4 weeks a month that would be about 12 hours, about the size of a new campaign, but I agree that I would like a survival mode.

It became about how many points you can score in 15 minutes while ODST had longer matches and focused on survival. Also, Reach included an unlimited ammo and grenades cache instead of it respawning every round. Introduction of Armour Abilites and too many OP power weapons including the Target locator just took any feel of danger out of the equation.

I know what went wrong. The custom settings spoiled some of the challenge aspect, the quick dodging bouncy Elites, and the maps we had to do it all on, lol… Still fun though.

Welcome to the Halo 4 forums, you are NOT the only one who thinks that. Notice how much i edited the word “not,” its because im trying to make a point. We didn’t like reach’s firefight either.

Why? Firefight is replayable enough (at least according to you; I find it boring as hell) without new content being added all the time, so why does Spartan Ops need new content? For all we know, there could be multiple missions ending similarly to how Reach’s campaign ended, with you allowed to keep fighting for as long as you can survive for (presumably you’d get saved in the ending cutscene).

You can replay the whole hell load of them…
Seriously, where is the problem with this? Firefight was dumbed down in Reach and given the blandest Modes available in Matchmaking, and all it had were a few Maps to play on…
…I mean with all the possible Missions they could make, spanning multiple Locations with varying Objectives, who’s to say they don’t provide multiple Missions that simply are to Survive…?
Firefight needed a few more options like editing starting ammo, determining the capacity of the ammo crates, and setting what comes in how many weapon drop pods. I actually want to create modes with limited ammo, but the spawning ammo for most weapons is laughably low, and I don’t want to be limited to only covenant gear. It also would have been cool to create a mode that maybe has 6 drop pods, rocket , sniper, GL x2, Shotgun x2, and have only DMR/AR load outs. To be honest I like reaches firefight, but do i play the default modes or the matchmaking? not unless i want to complete one of the challenges. I have to make the modes harder or add in an extra mechanic to make it more interesting. In the default firefight the only enemies I “fear” are the hunters and anything armed with concussion rifles… practically everything else is a cakewalk.
I also hope that there are some defense modes in Spartan Ops. it would definitely make sense to have at least a few.
