Hey it’s WETCOAST here and I would like to express my ideas and comments to Halo 4.
First of all for halo 4 I would like a greater player cap than the 16 player cap. Come on it’s 2012 and were still gonna play big team battle with 8 vs 8? I honestly think by now they would have changed that for halo reach but no of course they wouldn’t even bother. It would be awesome for halo 4 if the player cap went up to 18 and/or even 20. Look at BATTLEFIELD for an example; 24 player cap compared to the dull 16 player cap. Yes Battlefield runs on dedicated servers that cost millions but even 343 wouldn’t bother to purchase a set. Halo doesn’t even have dedicated servers.
I don’t even think that even 343 reads or even cares about these forum post.
Yes these forums are monitored and all but seriously do you guys think that even one or more people at 343 give a -Yoink- about the community and its fellow supporters?
No it really doesn’t. The connections would get worse and worse, it would be harder to have a safe spawn and the more people the higher chance someone quits and puts your team at a disadvantage since Halo does not add players mid game like BF3 or COD.
Aside from the “dedicated server” debate, one has to understand that the more users in a game, the more problems it causes. It’s not as simple as saying “Hey! Let’s press this big button and allow 24 people in a game together! Woooooooo!”
For example,
More players in a game provides more opportunities for people to quit, which forever increases the frustrating quitting problems we see abundantly in Reach. A quick rotation system, like CoD, could fix this problem, theoretically.
Increasing the maximum population would mean altering maps to allow for that many amount of users. Increasing the maximum in-game population from 16 to 24 would call for a slew of new maps to compliment the increase of players. More weapons, vehicles, equipment, etc. would need to be placed on a map to allow a larger population to feel adequate. To summarize, we’d need specific maps for larger player amounts.
“Dedicated servers” aren’t necessarily out of the question. It’s common knowledge that Gears of War 3 takes advantage of this, as well as Battlefield 3 and other popular modern games. It doesn’t make sense for the Call of Duty franchise to invest in dedicated servers, when a new game is introduced and released a few months apart from each other. The Halo franchise, on the other hand, which releases main titles years apart from each other, would arguably make a claim for a sound investment. It isn’t out of the question, however I would alter the netcode to be more stable, as well as slightly altering some matchmaking aspects, if possible, and that should correct the problem instead of jumping to the “Halo needs dedicated servers!” argument.

Answer: Add Dedicated Servers so when one player quits out, another can join the game to replace them.
Not the 360, they are alredy pushing the game nearly at the very limit, possibly even needing separate texture packs to complete the game, to think about increasig the total player number.

Battlefield 3 did it, why can’t Halo 4? Unless Halo 4 can’t perform well enough to compete with games that are older than it, there’s no reason why they shouldn’t be able to add more players.
I don’t know why, but people always take this topic negatively. I feel we very much do need a player cap increase. But everyone says it causes so many problems. Yeah, I’m aware of that. Halo 3 honestly had the worst lag of any game I ever played, and yet I saw games like Gears, Battlefield, and CoD play without a single hiccup. Halo needs dedicated servers… I honestly have no idea why everyone says this is such a bad idea. It can be done. It’s been 10 years. Honestly, it’s about time we saw an increase. This game is supposed to innovative, no? 10 years later, and we still have 16 players. Not really innovative to me.

I think that 12v12 is good. It is always fun on Halo Custom Edition to play classical maps with more people. It changes things up. Having more people = more possibilities.
Sorry but no thank you. If you want to play more then 16 people in a game. Go play COD BTB. 16 people is more then enough and laggy enough as it is aswell. Plain and simple.
