Halo 4 Needs 1-50 Ranking sytem.

I was really hurt when I saw the Halo:Reach ranking system. Halo: Reach reached for failure. It also made me return the game because the game had no incentive to win any matches at all. I don’t want Halo 4 to be a play a lot to be a higher rank game. It was all just a noob friendly game. My friends and I pretty much stayed on Halo 3 because it took skill to play and we wanted to win so we wont get deranked. Does anybody have any knowledge about the ranking system? I’m really depending on Halo 4 to be the savior of my likings of the HALO TRILOGY. I would like to see 1-50 because if you saw a 45 or higher you got your butt out of your seat and focused really hard on the game because you knew you’re going to be in a tough situation to win.

> 1-50 DRAMATICALLY increased boosting. Which in turn, decreased its relevance. This is not arguable. That said we are thinking of ways to let players understand relative skill levels without increasing abuse based on that metric.

> The numbers were bafflingly large. People with no skill and a lot of time (and occasionally money) on their hands made your 50 a mostly personal achievement.
>
> I found that late 40s was effectively meaningless - so polluted was it by boosters etc. Of course 30 seconds of gaming could disprove that on a case by case basis. Late 30s, early 40s meant I was going to get donged on.

> There are a lot of stupid people in the world, but boosters is a place I just can’t go intellectually.
>
> So let me get this straight, you will buy, steal, borrow or boost an account so that you can have a number in front of your gamertag, that you know has NO MEANING because you deliberately spent money and time to make it meaningless. And then, on top of that, a level 28 player could come in and dance on your grave.

Thanks for the feed back! now i can shut-up.

Look this topic has been discussed for 5 months or more an 5000 or more threads. No-one wants to discuss it once more. Franky said that there won’t be 1-50 nor Arena ranking system but something different…

Wrong. Halo 4 does not need a 1-50 Ranking system.

Why stop at 50? The system is only there to improve matchmaking, and the number doesn’t even need to be visible. Putting a cap on the ranks implies there’s a skill level that no player can surpass, which is absolutely false.

The Ranking system, instead of being based on arbitrary skill expectations, should be based on actual performance against other players from one match to the next. So long as you keep perfonrming extremely well, you will continue to climb “ranks” until you are finally matched with players against whom you find the most even challenge. If you then find yourself improving further (as you most certainly will), the ranking system simply matches you with similarly-skilled players.

I submit that this very ranking system should grade a player’s skill based solely on kills and assists per game, with an “XP” bonus for a win, but no penalty for a loss.

XP would be earned thusly:

  • A K/D Spread of +1 earns 0 XP (i.e. 3/2, 8/7, 21/20).

  • A K/D Spread of +2 or greater earns 1 XP per kill (i.e. 4/2 = 1 XP, 12/7 = 4 XP, 30/20 = 9 XP, etc.).

  • A K/D Spread of -6 or worse results in a loss of 1 XP per death (i.e 5/10 = -0 XP, 4/10 = -1 XP).

  • 2 assists = 1 kill.

Every, say, 20 XP, the player levels up to the next rank where he is now matched against (hopefully) more challenging opponents.

I personally think this system would work excellently, due mainly to it’s simplicity- though I could be very, very wrong. Also, I am aware that it would only apply to gametypes where kills are the objective.

Looks like you will be disappointed with Halo 4 then.

sips tea

Also this thread has been made many times before. And I think we get it but I don’t think
it’s happening.

Okay…

In Halo 2 1-50 worked great but unfortunately in Halo 3 people turned it into a business and were making money boosting people to a 50 or selling accounts for money. I think Microsoft put pressure on Bungie to change the system, I’m probably very wrong. But anyway Bungie changed the system to Arena which was probably made to be boring as hell on purpose so that people won’t be motivated to sell accounts or make money.

we will see because if halo 4 fails you can go back to this post…i remnber when people said reach rank was new and better and i got flamed for it on bungie.net for saying it was going to suck but once the game was out no one liked it but kids who stay home allday
