Halo 4 - My Thoughts

These are my thoughts and feelings of Halo 4. I hope you’ll take the time to read my opinions.

  • The Campaign

I was extremely excited for the campaign, as many of us were. I applaud 343i for making such a great plot that kept me interested throughout the entire game. I loved the personal story between Chief and Cortana. Many of the missions were unique, and it kept me on my toes until the very end. All in all, it was a very satisfying experience.

In the future, I would like to see anther campaign like this. I enjoyed it very much.

  • Multiplayer

Multiplayer has been so fun for me throughout my Halo adventure. What I found in Halo 4 was a great multiplayer, but not without it’s flaws. It can be fun and faster paced, but I feel the weapons can be unbalanced at times. The DMR seems to be the weapon for the most part, and I feel cheap when I use it, although this is not to be taken to a extremity. In the end, the multiplayer met my expectations, in a pretty good way.

In the future, I would like to see a tiny bit more balance with the custom classes. I do like the ordnance drops very much, but I feel they can be tinkered with to make do.

  • Spartan Ops

I can’t say much, as it’s only in the third episode, but it’s been a mixed experience. At times it can feel like a repetitive, button pushing fiasco. Other times, it feels like an engrossing cooperative ride. I think some missions are developed better than others. I am eager to see what direction it takes. I must add something, though. The most fun I’ve had in Spartan Ops so far was my friends and I doing our own thing. This is cool, but I’d like a more engrossing experience one in awhile. I know what you might be thinking. “If you’re having fun, who cares?”. The point I’m trying to make is, I feel like we need to create our own fun for the fun to be had. I take this as a slightly bad sign in a few ways. One thing I’d like to see in Spartan Ops is more varied objectives. I respect you,
however, for releasing these missions on a weekly basis, but these objectives can become really boring really fast.

In the future, I would like to see a little more variety in objectives and missions.

  • Forge

Oh man. 343i, you dropped the ball. I’m sorry, but I’m pretty disappointed with this mode. The maps designed for Forge use are very, very limited. I feel so confined, way more than I should. The first time I played Forge, I was so excited. However, that excitement quickly diminished as I met kill barriers at almost every turn. All these maps lack the freedom of Forge World, a map I loved very much so. I also feel sorrow for too many Forge pieces being reused. There doesn’t seem to be many new objects to toy with. The magnet system is a plus, though. It has saved me a lot of time in my building endeavors. The Dynamic Lighting System is a letdown, but this is a more minor complaint . I had a hope to build a dark, creepy Flood map from the start. A frown stretched upon my face to see this was hardly the case. Although it does give maps a new, pretty paint job.

In the future, I would like to see Forge greatly more innovated. I would like more aesthetic things, such as a terrain editor and a operable lighting system. I would also love for maps to allow more freedom for the player without the hindering of kill barriers.

  • Customs

Customs has been a mixed bag. My friends and I have been riding customs the past few days, and it has been really great. Although many times we’ve had these ideas, that we’re only to be met with “Aww, we can’t do that,”. I have enjoyed customs, though.

6/10

Pros: Amazing Campaign, Multiplayer is fun.
Cons: Forge is a disappointment.

Things I’d like to see in the future:

  • More freedom in Forge
  • Greater variety in customs
  • Greater variety in Spartan Ops objectives

Overall, I am satisfied with Halo 4, but I’d love to see lots changes in the future. I greatly respect you, 343i. I understand how hard it must be to take a beloved franchise by the horns, but I feel you’re capable enough to make it happen. I expect great things in the future. Thank you for taking your time to hear my thoughts.
