I heard that Halo 4 was not going to have a Beta. Apparently Frankie said that it would be a waste of time that they could have working on the game. The thing is though, those 2 weeks that we test for them would probably be months of work on their part. Halo 2 and 3 both had betas and are considered the best of the titles. Reach had major flaws in it during the beta that the community addressed and Bungie fix’d (the community never complained about AA’s in the beta of Reach so don’t you even start on that). If Halo 4 lacked a beta it would lead to a disaster probably and there goes 343’s chance in wowing us. I hope to god this isn’t true that they would dismiss a Beta like this but if it is they have to rethink it. Otherwise they take a huge risk in failing us all.
What do the rest of you think? Would you be fine without a beta? Do you trust 343 enough to decide all of this for us?
Just as long as the code isn’t too hard to come by.
Don’t even bother dude, I’ve tried. Apparently everyone is fine without a beta because they trust 343 oh so much. Frankly I wish I could live in “La-La-La” land and just blindly accept Halo 4 will be awesome, but I’m not seeing it. I have a bad feeling this fanbase will kill Halo eventually.

Beta’s don’t even change much.
Reach beta: "DUE TO FEEDBACK, WE’VE CHANGED THE SLOTH-LIKE MOVEMENT TO… TURTLE-LIKE MOVEMENT. ENJOY.
Total waste of time.

Frank already said they dont want to spend the time and resources on a BETA. Doubt posting threads in the WayPoint forums is going to change everyone at 343s mind.
While Frankie is a great voice for 343 remember that that’s his primary role in this, the voice. 343 is not a single entity that resides in Frankie’s typed words on Neogaf. The decision to not have a Beta is a big one, and one made for many reasons, some of which will be marketing, but also probably for many technical reasons. 343 is a developer. I am willing to trust them to develop. No beta != glitches.

As I recall the DMR scope changed colour, major change.
Halo 2 did have a beta but it wasnt open to the public like Halo 3 and Reach. There both pros and cons to having a public beta and a private beta. Im willing to bet however that having a private beta is getting them more results than a public simply cause they can get better information from those players rather than a huge number of players. Sounds weird but getting feedback from a few million players is alot of info not to mention having to sort threw the garbage feedback
At least a 2 week beta would be fine, I dont know how those 2 weeks would take out a HUGE amount of time for them…
Especially with the game coming out on the Holidays.

Exactly.
Halo 4 should have a beta and I have many reasons why I think so. First of all Bungie basically handed the torch to 343 so there’s alot of pressure on them. Having the beta would not only make the game better but will also help 343 with knowing what the fans want so future games will be better. Second, when you get a hold of the beta you can spread it to others who can be introduced to the franchise. That means more players and more money. Lastly,343 is being way to confident about the multiplayer. When you act like that it can lead to disaster. We all had that happen in our life time. When you have the beta you can have that confidence because you can always fix it to make the game better.

Folks, relax.
Let me remind you that Halo 2 did not have a public beta, and I know many people around these parts who will tell you that Halo 2’s multiplayer was the pinnacle of competition in Halo (After the Auto Updates, most likely.)
Also, with Halo 3’s and Reach’s beta, by the time that public beta was all ready for the public and they played it, the internal dev build was way ahead. Weeks, if not a month. There is so much effort to putting out a public beta. Balancing maps at that point for the beta, finishing those maps, making all the code be ready for public Xbox LIVE, etc…
Without all that distraction, the internal dev build will be steamrolling even faster. With professional game makers and testers testing every night with probably around a 100 people on their special Dev Test Xbox LIVE networks, they’ll find the bugs just as good as all those other players. Not to mention most players in a public beta just play to play. If they see something afoul, they’ll think “LOLOLO DATS COOL SOMEONE ELSE HAS ALREADY REPORTED IT IMSURE”.
343i is on the ball.

>Implying that you know better than a multi-billion dollar company.
Also, “This fanbase will kill halo eventually”, doubtful. We aren’t blindly trusting them, so get that out of your head. There are completely valid reasons both economic and game-mechanic related as to why a closed Beta would be a better decision. It cuts through all the complaining and general banter, and allows high ranker community members and hired testers to do a good job.
I really don’t understand why people insist on being so angry over this. It’s a video game.

This man. Cookies. Now.
I think 343’s private beta and other multiplayer testing phases will be enough to effectively test the game and allow for them to find any bugs or errors and fix them, and if i played the beta i would be depressed for months until it came out because i woulnt have halo4 anymore.
For those that say “oooo no! no beta means halo 4 will fail” is just pretty silly. I think 343 is underestimated just because its their first halo game even though they have x-bungie employees working on it, and they have been working on it for a really long time meaning most bugs have been found and dealt with in that massive span of time.
Halo 4 doesn’t need a open beta. Most players don’t submit bugs anyways. More stress on the 343 team, rather have them just focus on fixing and tweaking the game.
Those who want the beta just want to play the game early, not to help fix bugs. Very few players actually do that.

I’ll wager I did overreact a bit, but I just think a public beta would be the best idea. A bigger sample base and a through test of the servers couldn’t hurt. I get 343 has their reasons, I just don’t agree with them.

This ^
Playing it would just make people have a lil fun for 2 weeks then a few months of no halo 4, and most people dont submit any feedback at all they just play play play and expect all the glitchy or bad stuff to be fixed w/o telling the makers anything
forget it, they said they dont have time to invest in a public beta. they’re testing it internally. I don’t see any problem there.
