Halo 4 Multiplayer: mixed emotions

I have been an avid Halo player since the release of CE. There is so many things I have strong opinions about when it comes to Halo multiplayer as a whole. Not entirely sure why, but I feel the need to express my feelings to the community about Halo 4 multiplayer and the extreme changes that have come with it.

To begin I will tell you that one thing, and one thing alone has made Halo multiplayer such an awesome experience. Simplicity. Playing Halo 1-3, and even Reach the most desirable aspect of the game was you could pick up the controller and you would be on even playing feild (mechanically). Nobody starts with loadout customization, everyone spawned starting with the same guns and abilities. Player traits were completey even and fair, creating by default a generally high competitive atmosphere. Players would need to work together to establish weapon, and map control. I believe Bungie originally was passionate about the simplicity, which gave Halo multiplayer such a unique feel, enabling and providing users with the means to be the complex factor, were player skill would almost always be the determing factor in a battle.

For example, without sprint everyone moves at the same speed, not being awarded the previlage of sprinting away due to poor desicion making. I understand the counter arguement when everyone has sprint, but let me finish my point before you say what I know you’ll say. Players needed to critically think about where and when to move to a new location, in accordance to their opponents location. When a player makes poor judgement by moving into enemy territory, the consequence is typically watching the respawn timer. Although, players could still come out on top, even in these situations, because they have such raw physical skill and situational awareness. For instance, if your taking shots, trying to evade (without sprint) requires you to make every movement perfectly to successfuly survive. Such as hugging up against the walls when you move away, and perfectly stopping at the right time to drop of a ledge flush and cleanly. If any of these elements are poorly executed the player suffers death, but if the player has exceptional movement and decision making they can be awarded to live another day.

I know this is a ton to take in, but here is my point. The diverse loadouts and perks that players unlock in Halo 4 instantly make the game unfair to play from the start. Some players with higher SR ranks have special abilities unlocked giving them an edge over other players, which in my opinion is not fun, or fair.
Which leads me to believe that Halo 4 was built to give users the ability to play the game tailored to their liking, rather than creating a fair enviroment for everyone to play in.

To excercise my point, there is only one map on the disc that has true and absolute symmetry, which is Haven. Every other map is asymmetrical giving vast advantages/disadvangtages dependant on the color they end up with. Adrift is somewhat symmetrical, but the hallways on either side, and the bases are furnished differently, voiding the map from true fairness.

Halo 4 doesn’t contain the elements of even playing field, which is a simple philosphy to work and live by. This game has been built and engineered to appease majorities, and satisfy the average casual gamer. I personally feel Halo 4 doesn’t match the competitive quality of it’s ancestors. Once again that is my opinion, I know many of you love and enjoy this game. It gives me relief that many others do genuinely enjoy this game. As for myself, I am dissapointed with Halo 4. It doesn’t quench my thirst, or give me a rush like the previous games did.

All in all I feel Halo, true Halo has become a pastime, something I will dearly miss and cherish for all time. This doesn’t mean i’ll hop online and play game or two, but I don’t see myself immersed in this game. To all who understand me, I wish i could give you hugs, and to those who don’t I wanna hug you anyway

I’m not out to make enemies or upset anyone, these are just my peronal views and feelings about Halo multiplayer. Hopefully I have been able to shed some light on what Halo was. As for what Halo is, I can’t digest it, maybe im far too traditional, but I just cant at this time, maybe, just maybe I can learn to adapt. Thanks for giving the time to read this post. Much appreciated. I love all you Halo players, new and old.

Also, one last thing. There are some awesome things I do like, for instance the snapshot medal. Finally some proof of pulling a no scope. I was in team snipers on ragnarok, only snapshots, had 22 sniper kills, with 22 snapshot medals  That’s satisfying to me. But I don’t like how they give you a sniper medal for any kill with the sniper, I liked how they would award it for only getting a headshot. People would look so boss with a ton of snipe medals. Oh well… cant have it all. Also, whats with not being able drop flag? That seems extremely strange, that’s all I can say. Oddball, you can throw it at people, and your forced to pick it up? My last last note, I really did like being able toggle picking up objectives, made more sense to me.

Add: belly loves you

if any of you want to play Halo 4, or any other Halo. Thanks again for reading my verbal diarrhea. Hope to hear back from the community soon

Cheers,

Belly
