in the next few lines i’d like to list a few things that, in my opinion, should be fixed to make h4 a mulitplayer game that deserves the name halo! please remember whyle reading…this is my personal opinion. i’m not saying that everyone else has to think the way i think. also i’d like to hear your opinions on this matter.
REMOVE JOIN IN PROGRESS:
i’m sure you guys read this a million times in the forum. join in progress is terrible for halo. when you search in matchmaking on your own, 8 out of 10 times you will join a game in progress (at least that’s what’s happening to me). and almost every time you will get matched with a losing team (which is obvious…not many people quit on a winning team). after only two weeks of playing h4 i’m tired and fed up with joining losing teams and being down 20 kills. also this system makes quitting very easy. in all the past halo games one of the biggest complaints were quitters in multiplayer…now we have more quitters than ever. in my opinion join in progress has to go and quitters should be penalized, which leads me to my next point…
THERE HAS TO BE A RANKING SYSTEM WHICH IS VISIBLE IN GAME:
why? for multiple reasons…a ranking system is the only way to show your skill to other players. in halo 2 and halo 3 you knew if someone was 50, he earned it (1 out of 10 times they bought the account). however, in halo 4 the only way to get an impression of someone’s skill is to check the K/D stat, which, in my opinion, is not very significant. the problem with this system is, that it is destroying objective games, because people rather camp for kills than go for the objective (not all players, BUT A LOT!). a ranking system that rewards you for winning is the only way to get rid of campers and get matched with equally skilled players. also i think it’s the best way to penalize quitters…if you quit from a game you should rank down immediately (maybe even more than one rank). maybe then people will think twice about quitting. also i think the playlists should be devided into social and ranked again, since there a players who don’t want to be ranked.
REMOVE ORDNANCE DROPS:
i thought ordnance drops could be a refreshing idea for halo 4. but after playing it for a while i don’t think this system works for halo. power weapons have always been a big part of halo. in order to get these weapons, you had to work as a team and outslay the other team to get an advantage over them. this always brought some great tactics and teamwork to halo’s mulitplayer. ordnance drops, again, suppports camping! remove them and bring back a weapon spawn system (for all playlists in the game).
FIX THE SPAWN SYSTEM:
for some reason the new spawn system has been praised by many people. i think it’s terrible. although i haven’t fully understood how the new system works, it seems that you respawn near a teammate almost every time. because of this you find yourself in 1 vs. 2 or 1 vs. 3 encounters all the time. i know what you’re thinking…stick with your team and you won’t get shot by 3 players at once. right…but this system forces you into a certain, very limited, style of play. simplified: stick with a teammate or die! in past halos, in order to help your team, it was sometimes necessary to take different paths on the map and make pushes on your own, which in halo 4, is basically suicide. an argument for the new system could be…no more spawn camping. right…but let’s be honest. if you got spawn camped in past halos you deserved it and the other team just outclassed you.
REMOVE INSTANT RESPAWN:
because it just doesn’t work. like i mentioned before, 1 vs. 1 encounters are very rare in halo 4. however, if you come out on top of your opponent (and manage not to run into one of his near spawning teammates) and outslay him, it’s not very rewarding if the guy respawns instantly somewhere near you, while your shields are still down, and then puts the last shot into your head. it’s kinda frustrating to be killed by a guy that should still be recovering from the five shots you put into him just a few seconds before!
REMOVE KILL CAM:
to be honest…kill cam doesn’t even bother me that much. most people don’t watch it anyway because they are too busy hitting x for the instant respawn. i just think 343’s attempt to implement another ridiculous call of duty feature is embarassing. which brings me to my last point…
STOP TRYING TO COPY CALL OF DUTY:
i know you guys are probably sick of hearing this…but i don’t understand why 343 tried to make a call of duty version with spartans and shields in it. 343 has to put up with the comparsion with call of duty…because it is obvious: kill cams, instant respawn, points instead of kills, ordnance, experience ranks, join in progress…all these things were copied and have nothing to do with halo as i know and love it. halo should rely on the strong foundation it created…teamwork, tactics, being rewarded for smart decisions and punished for stupid decions, having a great time with messing around in social games and having the best competetive experience in ranked games.
like i said…all these statements are my personal opinion and i’m not claiming that i speak for everyone who plays this game. i actually think halo 4 has great potential…if a few things are fixed. i posted this, because i want to hear your opinions and thoughts and i hope i’m not alone with my opinion:)
