The multi-kill medals look much different from the past Halos (as do all the medals), but the thing that surprised me here is that they are all the same colors, only distinguishable by their different yellow star counts. I personally don’t like this change because I thought the individuality of each medal’s color scheme in past games really made me feel like I was getting a NEW medal for doing something more substantial, instead of maybe continuing a chain of the same medals. Actually, I think the multi-kills are just not prominent enough in general and I think that may also owe to their identical blue colors, as they seem to just blend in with the rest of the medals. The sense of significance in traditionally high-value medals is somewhat blurred because all medals look roughly the same now. Of course, maybe they’re just placeholders… Ultimately it’s not a huge issue but I’d like to hear you guys’ opinions.
Also, what do you think of the narrator’s voice when he announced the overkill? It sounded kind of weak to me, almost like he was saying it out of surprise. I’d like it to sound grittier, which I think the double kill announcement does a much better job of accomplishing. Additionally, I noticed that the lesser double and triple kill medals were not announced preceding the overkill, and that left me pretty curious considering how all multi-kills were announced in previous games if my memory is accurate (correct me if I’m wrong).
So with that, DISCUSS! Oh, and don’t be afraid to talk about all the other shiny redesigned medals too!
I think it’s fair to say that near nobody has liked the new look or sound of medals. Uninspired monotony.
Probably/hopefully placeholder.
Another interesting medal in the B Footage is when a player kills another with an assault weapon by shooting them in the head, a skull medal appeared. Headshot with autos? Surely not?
This is the first time I’ve seen this multiplayer gameplay and honestly, I want to through up. It is WAY to bland. Not to mention that the announcer sounds surpprised when he says OVERkill. Also, I like it much better how in the previous games he says all of the medals.(Doubles kill, Tripple, and overkill, etc) It makes you feel like the MAN when you hear him shouting out all of those medals.
I can’t believe that’s the final design, it looks cheap and bad, reminds me of how Reach felt to play, good ideas but bad presentation. I think it’s just placeholders, simple versions of medals used since medals are not prioritized in development and can be fixed at last minute, unlike more important things (netcode, weapon balance).
I sure hope that’s the case, flashy medals has always been a vital part of Halo
Really not a fan of that new white text. It’s distracting. You still get medals to tell you what you just achieved and the announcer will still say ‘killing spree’ and what not. Why include that? I hope there’s a toggle to turn it off. Just have an option to display your achievements on the side like the previous 4 halos. Come on, now.
None of what we saw should be taken as final. Even Frankie said that the team had been working insanely the past few weeks to “prime and polish something that shouldn’t be done for a few months”. I’d take that as proof enough that some of these things aren’t final. Remember the Reach beta medals? They looked similar to past medals, but a lot lower quality and unpolished unlike the final versions which made it into Reach. And audio is kind of a finishing touch. They can add and edit audio far into the development process. I kinda doubt they’ll remove Jeff Steitzer’s voice from saying things like “Double Kill!” just because it’s a common medal.
Hopefully these are just place holders. The voice sounds uninterested in what is going on. Also I hope you can adjust whether you want the multi-kill text to appear in the screen center. I personally dont mind the +10 for a kill appearing in the middle because it lets me know directly that I killed the player instead of needing to look at the medals to check whether it was an assist. I just dont want the other kill text appearing in the center.

Another thing to pay attention to is the new greande being introduced at 1:15. You notice he throws it bu no explosion. I’m dead certain this is one of the new kinds of grenades and its my guess its a distraction grenade, temporarily overriding or distracting a single enemy unit for a set time. Reminds me of Halo 3’s radar jammer.

I agree. At this point, I’m assuming its a similar situation with cortana appearing in the G.I. article as solid when in fact 343 was still working on her holographic settings still. Its probably a place holder at this point. Just one more thing to tweak…

Announcer sounded fine to me. As for earlier games, its a hit and a miss, ultimately, its too small for me to care how he announces things. I’d rather focus on other matters than hearing he killing frenzy, though I do want to know when an opponent is on one.

I think that’s a frag that the watcher catches and throws back. That’s one of their defensive abilities.
An example, a weak one, but an example nonetheless is the Reach Beta which had different looking medals.
To be honest I’m more concerned at the announcer’s voice. I mean, really? No “Gained the Lead!” and Double Kill sounded more like a question… Yes, Jeff, yes. It was a Double Kill.
