Halo 4 - Master Chief's New Armor

Okay, let me start with an introduction. This is a thread about Master Chief’s new armor as seen in the E3 teaser trailer, Halo 4 cover picture, and the newly released images of McFarlane’s Halo 4 action-figure. This also has a poll attached to it, so I can gather clearer information on your, the community’s, opinion. I’ll also answer a few questions asked on the comments below.

Here’s a question, “how did Master Chief change his armor in the middle of space?” Some people are all hyped up about how Master Chief jumped from one armor to another in the middle of space in a destroyed UNSC warship. Well, like they (Microsoft, E3, 343i, IGN) said, it’s just a TEASER trailer. Not an actual official trailer. Well, you know what I mean. If anything, my best guess is that it was just a teaser to flash of MC’s new armor design; get fans all excited. Perhaps, Master Chief didn’t start the game with the new armor and would be obtained as part of the plot later in the game. But like I said, I don’t work with 343i, I don’t get leaked info, therefore, I do not officially know. But it would kinda make sense, right?

This brings me to my next topic - does the armor appeal to us?
If you go to the Bungie forums for Halo, there’s a lot of people ‘hating’ on the new armor, yet there’s a lot of people going along with the armor. Personally, I thought I hated the armor. It didn’t seem ‘Chiefy’ enough. It didn’t feel like Master Chief. It’s epic armor and all, but I didn’t feel comfortable with it being Master Chief. Some people say it looks to close to a Japanese design. Perhaps they’re comparing it with the one seen in the Japanese collection of Halo shorts, Halo: Legends’, short story, ‘The Package’ (and I do see the similarities). But that’s not the case for me.

The helmet looks like… I can’t really explain so please pardon any nonsense you receive from this… It looks like what someone, perhaps an MLG, who plays multiplayer matchmaking all day using a deep voice changer calling kids noobs or bragging how much of a ‘pro’ he is would wear. Hopefully, that somewhat made sense to you. If it did, here’s a cookie. (::slight_smile:

Originally, I hated the armor. Now, I feel like the new armor is pretty freakin’ sick (I still miss our protagonist’s space-diaper). If anything though, I still don’t feel a complete connection to the new helmet. The original armors, from Mk. V to Mk. VI, capture some kind of curious look to the Master Chief’s face. It blended perfectly with my experience with exploring a new world the Halo games brought. Even when they changed the helmet from Halo: Combat Evolved to Halo 2’s Mark VI, I still loved the helmet. Specifically the visor; it was wide and opened to witness new worlds I’d enter. Th new visor looks like what- some kind of pair of futuristic glasses? It almost looks as if Master Chief is wearing the Rogue helmet from Halo 3! …In my opinion…

I’m working on accepting that. Maybe someone on this thread could convince me otherwise, or maybe someone understands what I’m saying. Either way, I’m all for reason.

Let me know what you think on the comments below, or maybe you can take some of your time to answer my poll question, if you haven’t already.

Thank you for reading and feel free to ‘thank’ me if you feel like I’m of any help to this community! (Lets me know if I’m doing any good lately…) =)

I like everything except for the shoulder pads, they need to be moved up to his shoulders. Not sitting on his bicep.

  • Franky said that the teaser trailer is non-canon.

Franky said that the armor is only in its 4th iteration, it is not final.

Franky said that the armor is partially changed for canonical reasons, and partially for artistic license.

That is literally all we have been told about Halo 4.

I really just do not know about how I feel about the armor right now. Im kinda ambivalent right now, though.

The thing is 343i has stated that their is a cannonal reason for the armour change. My guess would be that Cortana modifed it while he slept.

At this point in time, I agree with this.

I haven’t decided yet. I mean, it’s not ugly, but I’m not in love with it yet…

Here’s a question, “how did Master Chief change his armor in the middle of space?”

R: he passed on to his new rank and bought the new and super armour that he unlocked.

how he got jetpack?

R: before he spawned he choosed his abilities

how he got a magnum with a mini rocket on it?

was a gift from cortana.

and another thing, I dont care if they modify the armour the only thing i dont want them to modify because i feel its part of the history that master chief stays with his original helmet of halo 3, so on the day of now i dont want 343i to change his helmet!

“I cannot forgive you for what you’ve done… but, you have my ‘thank’.”

i now it was the mark V but i prefered the halo 2 and 3 helmet because he looks more epic

yeah it looks pretty cool but, there is going to be a place in my heart for all of the armors.

Very true. However, the Mk. VI from Halos 2 and 3 didn’t give me an uncomfortable feeling. When I was first introduced to the change, I thought it look pretty badYoink!. The one in Halo 4 doesn’t quite agree with me.

looks very nice, although i wouldn’t mind the shoulders being remade a bit

http://www.product-reviews.net/2012/02/13/master-chief-in-halo-4-comes-with-new-armor-change/

look at it and scrool down, the armour doesnt looks like master chief and the helmet looks like scout helmet. and his shoulders arent so good for me only for buying it at the armoury.

I don’t think the action figure very well represents what’s in the video - the shoulders look proper in the video, and Chief doesn’t look quite so malnourished. I think the figure contains gaps and what-not to allow for articulation, but it makes some of the proportions look bad.

Remember when Frankie said that the trailer armour wasn’t the final design. This COULD still be the case. It’s possible that McFarlen simply based their toy on that. It’s possible that this armour could now serve as a different permutation and the Chief’s armour will be different. There are a number of possibilities. Don’t count your chickens before they hatch.

It makes the chief look much more badass, in my opinion.

^^

Love it!

It looks like it’s the perfect customizable armor!
