Halo 4 Master Chief not a badass?

Anyone else feel like the Halo 4 Master Chief is not nearly as badass as he was in Halo 1, 2, and 3? Bungie made him so cool with all those badass one liners. In Halo 4 I feel like he never says anything cool and is kinda a -Yoink- in his “love” of cortana. Anyone else think this or just me?

Good to see Chief finally outmatched, he is the weak end of the chain in this game, which helps flesh out his character

Not really

He shouldn’t have to

It isn’t “love” 1) Cortana is made from a cloned brain to the person he considers his mother, pretty awkward 2) How much has he and Cortana gone through? Reach, Installation 04, Battle of Earth, Installation 05, Great Schism, fought through a Flood colony to help her, Battle of Installation 04B, lost in space with no one to watch over him but her, she is the closest thing to a human companion he’s got

When you’re stranded on a planet, alone with a -Yoinking!- Forerunner, who just so happens to be the General of the Forerunner Military while your only friend is going insane, you will want to try keep them as sane as possible

Chief and Cortana are as close as Marcus and Dom, Ash and Pikachu, Link and Navi, Banjo and Kazooie, etc, etc.

The only problem I’ve had with Chief was Bungie were too lazy to flesh out his character and just used the excuse “you’re supposed to be Chief”

I don’t recall him spouting off many memorable one-liners in the old games. Seems like the same old Chief to me, aside from the fact he’s obviously worn down over the years.

I don’t feel the same way. Honestly, they made him more than “generic 1-liner bad -Yoink-” by actually giving him a personality, and in a way that works well for him.

And no, its not “love” for crying out loud. It’s a bond with someone that they weren’t there, there wouldn’t be a sequal since he would die. Repeatedly. In horrible ways. Like, Halo 2 could have ended by having the bomb blow up in his face if she wasn’t there. Or John could have just ended the war by pressing the Forerunner “Galaxy Reset Button” if he listened to Guilty Spark.

On top of that, it exposes the one character trait that they tried to portray in the books: He isn’t perfect. He was lucky. And in Halo 4, his luck ran out moments before he could get it done. He’s flawed for good reasons and that made him better. If he was always perfect, the series would get boring if we know it’ll be OK in the end with a few characters that we don’t care of killed.

You dont remember any great Chief one-liners? You must be crazy

It is possible for a person to be emotionally mature and still be badass.

Except he has a personality this time

Like this guy

Character development is so not badass.

Really?

“No… I think we’re just getting started.”
“Sir, finishing this fight!”
“Wake me when you need me…”
“She said that to me once… about being a machine…”

Um I think this was his peak of badass! He survived the Dawn’s crash (I know he’s fallen to a planet before but this time he had a Covenant Fleet falling with him), engaged the Prometheans, saved Infinity, faced the Didact and in the end lost what he was trying to protect the most, Cortana.

As said by Lasky: “You say that like soldiers and humanity are two different things. Soldiers aren’t machines. We’re just people.”

Um you forgot some
“What happens if you miss” -Cortana
“I won’t”-Chief

“To give the Covenant back their bomb”

“You know me when I make a promise…” -Choef
“You keep it. I do know how to pick 'em.” -Cortana

“I need a weapon”

“Bet you can’t stick them all” -Cortana
“Your on” -Chief

If I got force choked by a Forerunner and my AI companion died, I’d probably be sapped of badass too.

> “Bet you can’t stick it” -Cortana

Fix’d.

Yeah he is still a badass, but realize that he has been through a lot of pain and hasn’t had a moment to deal with it yet. He lost the other Spartans in his group, lost the captain, lost everyone on the POA, lost everyone on the inamber clad, lost everyone on the forward unto dawn, watched an ancient ai barbeque his closest friend, he failed all the people of new phonex, and now he lost the one voice that was there keeping him going through all of it. He is finally back home. It any normal person would cling to their armor, curl up into a ball and scream at the end of the game.

What does the chief do at the end? He takes off his protective armor for the first time in any of the games. Symbolically he is letting his defenses down and letting himself feel all that has happened. You know I bet during the time of spartan opps he is in an unsc base just exercising out all the anger, hate, hurt, and confusion that he has gone through. What makes him a badass? The fact that he is still fighting after everything.

I have to be honest and I completely agree with you. I hope that in the next halo game he has a much less friendly personality. Especially towards forerunners. But I believe that the death of Cortana will spark another bit of awesomeness in him.

I like the way they fleshed him out without making him look weak. He still is the big green bad*** we all know him to be.

I think he was badass in the novels so yeah the way Chief is in Halo 4 is awesome.

I think he is more likely to be in an ONI facility, with ONI trying to figure out why he didn’t turn to dust when the Didact’s composer fired upon him.
