Halo 4 Map Review Day 1: Launch Maps

I think it would be cool to review the Halo 4 Maps. Today, we’ll be doing launch maps (non-forged).

Abandon 4/10

A poorly designed Aysemmetric map, I only vote this in Flood. One side has a massive height and power advantage, not to mention their plethora of cover. A shotgun can reign supreme with a camper, which ain’t good.

Adrift 7/10

A well designed, if messy, symmetrical map, this plays well in most variants. Excluding SWAT and Snipers.

Complex 1/10

Whoever though this was a good idea for a map needs to have some Halo sense slapped into them, preferably BS Angel’s BR, except one that shoots cats. A confusing mix of outdoor, indoor, BTB and 4v4 leaves me questioning what the map designers were on when they let this pass. I would hate myself if I had forged this.

Exile 6/10

While this is a well designed map, it loses points for having mindlessly placed vehicles, and poor map transitions (crate jumps not smooth etc.). However it’s a good Dominion map, so it gets points for that. It loses point for being picked every time.

Haven 9/10

A brilliantly designed, Haloistic map, this loses only a single point for having that irritating bit under blue spawn where Frags are, and for not being symmetrical. Throwdown Version 10/10

Longbow 7/10

A great Dominion map falls down when it comes to fight placement in Slayer. After the initial 50 kills, the fight moves to Bravo base, sticking there with an endless standoff. I rest my case.

Meltdown 6/10

Poor for Dominion, this map is good for Objectives like Extraction 2-site/CTF, but sucks for slayer. Also WAAAY too many iCannons.

Ragnarok 8/10

Great for Objective, this map suffers greatly from DMR-Camo campers in Slayer, but is MUCH better for vehicle play than the other maps, simply because players can’t just pop out of cover with a PP and three Plasmas.

Solace 6/10

Should have been symmetrical, and the grav lift looks stupid and obstructs gameplay.

Vortex 10/10 The best map on Launch by far, vehicle combat is encouraged even more so than Ragnarok, but individuals are also allowed to go on foot. It’s also AWESOME for Dominion, and needs a higher weighting in all gametypes (comes up less than Exile in Dominion, facepalm).

So what are your thoughts on the launch maps?

Abandon: A bit higher grade for Slayer (5 or 6), but a 4/10 seems right for SWAT.

Adrift: Agree with the overall grade. Disagree with it being problematic for SWAT. I love it for SWAT. It’s the one map where BRs have a clear advantage over DMRs.

Complex: Disagree. 6/10 for Slayer, and the only problem I have with it for SWAT are the godawful spawn points.

Haven: Agree.

Solace: Meh for Slayer. 5/10. It is by far the SWAT map I hate the most. 2/10 for SWAT.

Uhh Solace is symmetrical…

But it’s not! Look at the bases!

> But it’s not! Look at the bases!

Yeah they’re different, but the map is symmetrical.
