Halo 4 Map Discussion

Earlier today I was discussing some of Halo’s golden maps with my brother and I realized something: the older Halos had AMAZING maps. Please allow me to make a list of the ones I like and dislike before I continue this discourse. The maps I’ve high-lighted are maps I dislike.

Halo: CE:

Battle Creek
Blood Gulch (Don’t rage; I personally thought it was a bad map)
Boarding Action
Chill Out
Chiron TL-34 (I liked the idea, but it just played horribly)
Damnation
Danger Canyon
Death Island
Derelict
Gephyrophobia
Hang 'Em High
Ice Fields
Infinity
Longest
Prisoner
Rat Race
Sidewinder
Timberland
Wizard

Halo 2:

Ascension
Backwash (Poorly designed and executed)
Beaver Creek
Burial Mounds
Coagulation
Colossus
Containment
Desolation
District
Elongation
Foundation
Gemini
Headlong
Ivory Tower
Lockout
Midship
Relic
Sanctuary
Terminal
Tombstone
Turf
Uplift
Warlock
Waterworks
Zanzibar

Halo 3:

Assembly
Avalanche
Blackout
Citadel
Cold Storage (I mean, it WAS free)
Construct
Epitaph/Epilogue
Foundry
Ghost Town
Guardian
Heretic
High Ground
Isolation
Last Resort
Longshore
Narrows
Orbital
Rat’s Nest
Sandbox
Sandtrap/Sand Tarp
Snowbound/Boundless (Not my favorite)
Standoff
The Pit/Pit Stop
Valhalla

Halo: Reach:

Anchor 9
Battle Canyon
Boardwalk
Boneyard
Breakneck
Breakpoint
Condemned
Countdown
High Noon
Highlands
Penance
Powerhouse
Reflection
Ridgeline
Solitary
Spire
Sword Base
Tempest
The Cage
Uplink
Zealot

If you look closely, you can see that I disliked a LOT of Halo: Reach’s maps. They were just really awful. This scares me. The biggest thing Halo multi-player relies on is map selection. If the maps are bad… then… well. I dunno. I’m just extremely worried. Is anyone else having this problem? From the three maps we’ve seen, I’m not extremely impressed. /:

I like them both. Problem?

Blood Gulch was a bad map? RAGE!

The worst map, and I agree with the Chief on this one, is Snowbound.
Worst map in Halo history that shipped with the game.

Reflection/Ivory tower has always been a favorite for me.

First map i played on Halo 2 and I’ll never forget it.

Most of your choices i agree with O.P, besides Sword base… until i see more maps am not really concerned at the moment.

Yup^ My thoughts exactly, I did like the Reach remake of it.

The only real issues I had with Halo: Reach maps made by the community was the fact they didn’t have any other color palettes and variation among the actual items able to be built.

If they can have a Forgeworld with multiple types of architecture, environments and colors OR a few different Forgeworlds that are unique, then I really think there won’t be any serious map issues.

One thing the community showed is that we can make some seriously fun maps… They just need different visuals and I’ll be content.

i do too. but competitive wise reflection is horrible. it flows terribly. power house is probably the best map that came with the game.

Reflection was an awesome map that simply didn’t work well for Halo: Reach. It didn’t flow well for Reach at all, I agree. The reason I like it is because it’s a beautiful remake of Ivory Tower and has loads of potential.

What’s wrong with Zealot?

Oh god

Big purpley mess… never liked that map, sorry.

No i agree. It’s a terrible map.

I think the three maps shown so far look great.

Well it is Covenant… I was referring to the gameplay.

When i say purpley mess i refer to the map as a whole, the map just never clicked with me really… and yes it is very purple!

I think it was the early days of people camping up top that has given me the hatred for the map.

As long as the maps are balanced and 1 team doesn’t spawn above the other on a hill with power weapons

It might be ok

Well not because it was covenant. I liked Midship, Heretic, and Damnation. Zealot just failed for me.

I also dislike the remake of Damnation in Reach.

This is what i don’t get either.

Blood Gulch is a bad map and people who like it should feel bad.

Valhalla master race.
