I’m enjoying the game and it’s pretty well built, so great job 343! However, my absolute biggest problem right now is that the lighting and contrast is way too bright.
I’ve turned down the contrast on my TVs and I’m on the lowest brightness setting in the game, and it still hasn’t changed. Some of the multiplayer maps such as Complex, Ragnarok, and Haven have a really bright glare and it feels like I’m staring at the sun.
Obviously nothing can be done to those maps and I’ll simply have to take breaks after every single match, but I think this is something to keep in mind for future DLC and games. It’s way too bright and the glare makes it hard to look at. I literally cannot play on Complex because of how bright and shiny it is, especially on the roofs.

I’ve done everything you guys are saying and I’ve played it on 3 different TVs.
I still have the same issue. I’ve never had any problems with lighting in games before and there’s nothing suddenly wrong with my eyes.
Halo 4 is just really really bright.
I believe several review sites also commented on the game having a distinct glare, usage of lens flares, and high brightness that can be bothersome after extended play. It’s very noticeable in other parts of the game but I wont go into that.
One reason I’m not voting for Complex or Ragnarok is because of how bright those maps are. I really cannot see anything at all when I stand on the roofs of Complex.
I found the same thing after a few hours, think I’ll have to start taking regular breaks.
When I looked in the mirror after I’d been playing for a while my eyes were extremely bloodshot (something which has never happened before). Be careful people.
It’s not surprising that 343 may possibly be resorting to conventional illusionary tactics to make their game look great.
Aliens games feature Xenomorphs that have somewhat outdated models but the lighting makes them very convincing. And in CE, without specular, the AI look like -Yoink-. And don’t get me started on Halo 2 and 3.
Face it, the Xbox 360 is almost dead. It’s the lighting, effects, and animation work that make Halo 4 look so great.
Besides, at least humans don’t have potato faces anymore…

I know right? My friend says that he thinks Halo 4 looks better than the previous games because of its graphics and lighting, not the quality.
I really hope Halo 4 is better then I think or Halo 5 redeems it because I really don’t want to give up Halo, but if Halo 4 is as bad as people predict, I will have to go back to the wastelands of Reach and the loneliness of 3.
I don’t think it’s a matter of trickery or illusions or anything. The contrast/brightness ratio is just simply too strong, such so that whites and other bright colors are exaggerated to the point where they’re blinding.
I played it with my friend a couple hours ago and it doesn’t hurt my eyes at all. Crysis 2 was bright but I think the contrast/brightness ratio is fine. Hope you fix your problem or your eyes adjust.
