Hey I am attempting to finish the legendary mode on halo 4 but the Promethean knights are a huge problem…does any one know how to beat them easily?
I’ve beaten every Halo game except h2 & h5 on solo legendary and I did h4 on LASO. I’m telling you this because despite that I STILL think knights are a huge pain in the -Yoink-.
Honestly, I think these guys are probably some of the hardest enemies in the entire series, so I’m not sure that I can give tips to make this “easy”. However, I can share some of the strategies I used to take these guys down.
-
Before anything else, make sure that you are just dealing with the knight. Crawlers, covenant allies and ESPECIALLY those damn watchers need to go before you even attempt to take down the knight. There’s nothing worse than killing one of these things only to have a watcher bring it back to life.
-
Engage at mid range. Long range doesn’t work great on these guys and they will destroy you with their melee up close.
-
Use spray and pray weapons. Honestly this took me a while to figure out because my natural tendency while playing Halo is to always use a precision weapon (BR, DMR, Light Rifle etc.) When dealing with knights however I find that things like the AR, storm rifle and forerunner AR (forgot the name, haven’t played in 2 years lol) are actually far more effective at destroying both their health and shields. Turrets absolutely melt them. While it is possible to headshot knights, the hit marker is quite small and not in an obvious place. My personal experience was that running up on these guys and opening up with an AR at mid range was way more effective than trying to BR them to death. The one exception to this is when the knight has an incineration cannon: you definitely want to stay as far away as possible from those guys.
-Use the noob combo. Plasma pistol overcharge will instantly deplete their shields and plasma pistols are everywhere in this game. It is very effective to hit them with an overcharged plasma shot than finish them off with a shotgun, AR, or whatever else you happen to have. If no plasma pistol is available a boltshot is an acceptable alternative, but it will require you to get much closer to the knight.
-Learn to recognize their charge. If I remember right, the knights make a very distinctive arm swinging motion before they do that teleport-charge thing. That move killed me more than anything else they did so learn to recognize and avoid it. If you see it in time, its simply a matter of stepping out of the way.
-Use power weapons. Should be obvious. The incineration cannon is particularly effective against knights: you can take out multiple knights with a single shot if they are in a group and you score a direct hit.
Like I said, these guys are definitely tough but they are not at all unbeatable. Hopefully these tips are of some assistance.
Just take out any nearby watchers to prevent them from reviving Knights, if possible EMP the knights with a plasma pistol then shoot them in the head with a pistol, br or dmr.
ok thanks I’ll keep those helpful tips in mind.
I’ve completed Halo 4 on Legendary and I throughly enjoyed it (my favourite Halo game actually) Use the Light Rifle and aim for the heads, but make sure you’re zoomed in as the bullets do more damage. Don’t be afraid to charge the lone knights and I used to find the suppressor was good at taking off their armour at close range.
Deal with the other enemies first and also remember to run away to recharge shields/heal. You’ll get there eventually.

ok thanks ProwlerFowler
After just beating legendary, I definitely had to change my usual tactics.
First, do not take on a knight with other enemies in the field. A bunch of crawlers whilst fighting a knight will tear you down, and watchers bringing them back to life is the worst. Pick them off with a precision weapon first.
Personally, I think power weapons are your best bet if they’re around. A binary, sniper, or beam rifle can take out a knight with two well-placed shots from a long range. Incineration cannons and rocket launchers work well, but they dodge fuel rods too easily. In missions with a lot of covenant involvement, a clip or two from a needler can make short work of a knight. If you’re dealing with a knight with a suppressor or a light rifle, a shotgun or scattershot can work pretty well if you want to risk getting close, just watch out for their sword because it will one-hit-KO you. One of my favorite strategies if there’s a railgun lying around is to get some distance from a knight, zoom in with your visor until your cross is perfectly centered on the knight, then start charging it and zoom right back in. You’ll have a split second to readjust while it’s charging if you need to, and it’s an easy way to one-hit kill a knight without putting yourself in harm’s way. The projectile hits almost instantly so you generally don’t have to worry about the knight dodging like you would with a rocket launcher weapon.
Otherwise, I’ve found a clip and a few shots from an accurate DMR can kill them, especially if it’s one with a suppressor or a scattershot because you can shoot from ar enough away they can’t touch you. Another good strategy if you risk getting close is to pump them full of an automatic weapon’s clip. The suppressor and the assault rifle are the best for this, I never seem to have any luck with the storm rifle. Grenades tend to be a waste of time, because they dodge frag and pulse grenades and one sticky grenade generally won’t kill them.
Knights with power weapons tend to pose a bigger threat because a binary rifle or incineration cannon shot spells instant death. Getting good at dodging is good against the incineration cannon (Jetpack really helps). Personally I think binary rifle knights are the hardest because they can kill you from across the map and do just as much damage up close as it does far away. I’ve found success hiding behind cover, peering out just long enough for him to take a shot but going back into cover before it connects, then popping out and finishing him off before he can get another one off. Dodging works well here because they don’t usually adjust aim very fast.
If all else fails, plan a path to just run right past it. This has gotten me through several tough spots because if you go fast enough you’ll get to the next section and a door will close behind you.
Ok guys I finally beat Legendary mode on Halo 4…ugh it was painfull because of the Promethean Knights, Crawlers etc… thank you all for giving me these useful tips.
