Halo 4 LE; Underwhelming and Overpriced?

First off, I want to begin by saying I’m not making this topic with intent to bash, bad-mouth, dis, troll, or in any way trash the Halo 4 game or it’s Limited Edition.

With that out of the way, I’ll point out a few things with the Limited Edition that I think are worth noting.
Firstly, and maybe most importantly, it comes with the future downloads of 3 map packs. Assuming those are $10 (800msp) each, it seems like an okay deal so far for the LE.
But here’s where things get iffy for me.

For a reference LE, I have the StarCraft II Collector’s Edition (which I do own, for the record)
Here is what is included with the SC2:CE
This LE retailed for $99, same as Halo 4. Hopefully (and sadly), you can see that SC2 has quite more content contained in it’s LE.

Short summary; -Art book, -Soundtrack, -Original 2 SC games, -Dogtag USB, Making-of DVD, -Comic Book, some digital goodies.
All for $99.
Comparing this to Halo 4’s CE, which has; -Steel Case, UNSC “briefing packet”, -Making of Forward Unto Dawn Series, -FUD Extended Cut, Digital Goodies.

Here’s my biggest issue with the Halo 4 LE. The entire Forward Unto Dawn bonuses are also completely DIGITAL. And by digital, I still don’t mean downloadable. They’ve been confirmed as only available to stream on Halo Waypoint (think of Reach’s commentary).
And you still pay $99.

I don’t mean to play the Devil’s Advocate, but it almost seems that Microsoft/343i are trying to cut corners on all content provided in the LE, and still try to set a price of $99.

Maybe I’m just complaining for nothing, or maybe I’ve got a point. Either way, I’ll admit I will still be getting the Halo 4 Limited Edition, though the content still seems lacking for the price being paid. Hopefully Halo 5 will have some more meaningful or at least slightly more tangible assets to whatever Editions it may have.

Anywho; thoughts, comments, flames(please no)?

Game = 60
maps = 30

Thats 90 dollars right there, but we also get:

Two avatar items (worth around 10 bucks) instant access to certain specializations. A 90 min extended SE version of forward unto dawn. Some in game conten.t and a shiny steel case. Oh, and a schematics book which has details on new characters and weapons

sounds worth it to me

The DLC sort of justifies the price. But in that case you’re just paying for the map packs in advance. When you could have just bought them on release.

But compared to other LE’s, doesn’t the content seem overpriced? I mean, probably %75 of what’s included is digital, and will still be available to the general public at some point. It doesn’t seem at all wrong to you?

But u have to take into account that blizzards games have like 12 years of hype behind them plus huge huge followings bigger then halos.

As for halos le there probably just playing it safe since everyone is still be skeptical about the game

HA, overpriced?

Its better value than most limited editions.

the normal game is around £40

each map pack will most likely be 800 ms points which is worth around £6.80 each

£6.80 x 3 = £20.40

full avatar armour costs 400 ms points which is around £3.40

avatar props cost 240 ms points which is around £2.04

£3.40 + £2.04 = £5.44

the dvd would probably cost around £10

if that was bought separately from the game, then altogether it would cost £75.84

Limited edition costs around £60

That’s without adding the case, the other additions in-game and other stuff.

Though hype shouldn’t dictate the price of what should be considered “collectible” or “limited.” That’s really just banking on your dedicated fans to pony up more cash just because. But after multiple LE releases for Halo games, why would they need to play it safe?

Well, look at the Bordelands 2 special editions, you are right. But this what you get when you you are buying a big name title like Halo.

Out of curiosity, did you read or skim?
It’s been stated that there is no DVD for any extras. It’s all streaming via Waypoint. Also, I pointed out the content that was included with StarCraft 2’s LE, which is quite more than what Halo 4’s includes, though still at the same price.

it only seems overpriced because most LEs are either 80 or 150. 343 decided to bring it in the middle.

And yes, people can just buy the maps on release, but either way you will still pay for it.

But the forward unto dawn is exclusive, it comes with digital content which is exclusive. Mass effect 3’s LE was also 100 and it came with just about as much stuff. Well, it also came with a digital prescription to the ost, why 343 isnt is beyond me but…

Overhaul this stuff isnt a neccessity but it is all good for the money.

30 extra bucks huh. All the DVD footage will be on youtube within a day and the 6 early so called specializations can be unloked by playing the game that is a rip off.

Already pre-ordered can’t wait!!!

Just took a look at borderlands 2’s SE’s. For the Special Edition, you still seem to get more than Halo 4’s at the same price.
The BL2 Collector’s Edition however just seems like overkill. Not maybe in price, but holy hell. I didn’t know people like Borderlands THAT much.

As stated earlier, there is no DVD with content on it. Though, it most likely will end up on the internet somehow.

I’ll also be pre-ordering it. I also can’t wait. . . !!!

I just think that Starcraft 2 had a really good limited edition. Halo 4’s seems very reasonable to me, but Starcraft 2 sure did come with a lot of stuff. If Starcraft 2 is the only LE that you own, don’t expect that much from all games. The only thing that I would of liked in the LE for Halo 4 was a soundtrack and then I wouldn’t ever consider NOT buying the limited. But yeah, for me, the LE is a definite purchase!

Well, take a look at EVERY Blizzard CE. All $99, and all came with AMAZING content. Even previous Halo games had FAR better content, though at a slightly steeper price, it still was a no brain-er for a Halo fan that it was worth it. This is the first Halo CE that’s I’ve questioned.

It will only grow.

The game and maps justifies $90 for any multiplayer fan. The rest of the content is well worth $10 more.

I wouldn’t say it’s overpriced. The maps alone make it a good buy, but the only downside of the LE, is that once Halo 5 comes out, it’s useless. That is, of course, if they don’t let you keep items from Halo 4.
