Halo 4, KISS

That should be the title of the game.

Halo 4, KISS.

Keep It Simple, Stupid.

A lot of people are clamouring for the game to be some kind of revelation, for it to evolve and change the genre etc.

It should. It should do what HCE did 10 years ago.

What did HCE do that was so incredibly different and amazing? It simplified EVERYTHING.

Instead of having 42 guns with alt fires and crap, you have two guns. Instead of having health pick ups and shield pick ups and different kind of shield pick ups and special boosters and equipment, you have rebounding shields. You have hotkey melee and grenades.

Everything was simplified and it led to this addicting feeling of consistency and fun. This is why H4 should be at it’s core as simple as it possibly can be.

Oh, I thought they were putting Gene Simmons in the game.

CE did not have online play and all the problems that come with it so you can’t have CE over the latency filled internet. Second, should boarding vehicles or assassinations or the Spartan Laser be removed since those were “gimmicks” added in later Halo titles? Halo 4 will innovate. Whether or not you like those innovations is your problem.

Oh yeah Halo already has alternate firing so you sound dumb saying that shouldn’t be in Halo 4.

> CE did not have online play and all the problems that come with it so you can’t have CE over the latency filled internet.

That has nothing to do with anything I said.

> Second, should boarding vehicles or assassinations or the Spartan Laser be removed since those were “gimmicks” added in later Halo titles?

Boarding vechile was a good idea, but I mean come on, that should have been there from the get go. It doesn’t make any sense to not be able to do it.

Assassinations are beyond pointless and limited. Spartan laser is not an alteration of the core gameplay. It’s just a new weapon.

> Oh yeah Halo already has alternate firing so you sound dumb saying that shouldn’t be in Halo 4.

Missing points again I see.

H4 should have innovation, but it’s innovation should be simplification. Just like HCE 10 years ago. Reel an out of control genre in. Then let it spin back out of control with H5 and 6.

> Oh yeah Halo already has alternate firing so you sound dumb saying that shouldn’t be in Halo 4.

He means having 25 different weapons that fall into the exact same category.

Lets see, we have the AR, SMG, plasma repeater, plasma rifle, pistol, etc… Those guns are all redundant.

Why bother replying if you aren’t going to say anything?

First you say keep it simple then you say boarding vehicles should have been in Halo from the beginning. Which is it? Should Halo keep it simple or should Halo attempt to innovate by adding new features like boarding vehicles?

How is boarding vehicles complex? It is simple, and fits with Halo.

How is Jetpack complex? Its simple and fits with Halo.

See anyone can do that with any mechanic.

It’s the only addition I can think of that they made from H2 on that worked out. So yes, if the cost of one good addition is things like duel wields, equipment and boom, then leave it out.

Having more weapons in the sandbox bothers you? Also those guns are not redundant. They have different properties. Just because you can hold down the trigger and they all fire does not make them the same or redundant.

Except it isn’t true with any mechanic.

Let’s change the argument then. Vehicle boarding doesn’t hurt any integral part gameplay, Jetpack does.

Let’s just say that features are good as long as they don’t hurt any part of gameplay and don’t make the game overly complex and otherwise non-Halo like.

Says who? You? You can’t say “keep it simple, no gimmicks” and then go pick certain gimmicks and bestow amnesty to those gimmicks that you prefer.

You ever play CoD? There is such a thing as redundancy in a sandbox, and getting rid of weapons that are redundant will only make it easier on the developer to properly balance each weapon, which is the gripe of a lot of Halo players.

I don’t have a problem with more weapons, I have a problem with useless weapons.

Vehicle boarding hurts map control by giving foot soldiers another option to take vehicles out with.

Jetpack hurts map control by allowing a foot soldier to travel vertically and avoid certain paths.

No difference in the effect on map control. They both make it easier to break map control.

I wasn’t even talking about Halo’s weapons in the OP. I was referencing games like quake where you could hold like 15 weapons at once and how HCE simplified that.

lol, no.

Boarding vehicles does not hurt map control it hurts vehicle control, and you don’t spawn with the option to take any vehicle you want. You actually have to get close enough to take it.

> Vehicle boarding hurts map control by giving foot soldiers another option to take vehicles out with.
>

Vehicle boarding doesn’t really hinder map control or any other part of gameplay in that matter. Unless of course you can point out how stealing a vehicle from another player can hurt gameplay.

Jetpack again, hurts map control by allowing players get to positions where they can see very large portions of maps. It also let’s people to easily take over locations that should be hard to take over.

Your argument is pointless.

> Lets see, we have the AR, SMG, plasma repeater, plasma rifle, pistol, etc… Those guns are all redundant.

Are you seriously saying you don’t see the functional difference between the pistol and the plasma repeater?

I’m trying to show how some innovation is percieved as good and some innovation is percieved as bad. You making a blanket statement to keep Halo 4 simple, like CE, then saying that vehicle boarding is good shows that point exactly. Don’t over react and hate on all innovations because, like boarding vehicles, innovation can be good.
