Kill times vs Map Positioning
Although many players feel the minimum kill times seen thus far are sufficient, I believe otherwise. Some of you may say that this sounds elitist and that I am asking for a Halo CE-3 remake. I do prefer Halo CE-3 over Reach. However I also enjoy Reach to an extent. Everything posted in the OP is my opinion and may differ significantly from your own. However I would ask that we keep this thread respectable.
Why kill times should be slightly faster:
Faster minimum kill times require a player to be more aware of their position on the map and also their surroundings. Map awareness should be an important aspect of the game.
Halo CE had the fastest kill times and required the most map awareness. Many veterans would say that this was best. Kill times should be fast enough where an unaware players or said players is in a bad location on the map will suffer.
On the other hand the players should be able to react if they do not acquire first shot on the aggressor. Halo 2/3 had slow enough kill times where players could avoid death in a decent location on the map if shot first.
Halo Reach had minimum kill times similar to halo 3 but also had components such as bloom which effectively rendered these kill times near impossible. Reach also had sprint which allowed players to escape death even in a terrible location on the map. In Halo Reach you see a lot of cat and mouse games after one player’s shields are depleted. Halo Reach should have had faster kill times because of sprint alone, with bloom this only escalated the problem. I am not saying that Halo Reach should have had kill times similar to COD. I am saying the minimum kill time (and no bloom) should have been closer to Halo CE. Enough about reach.
Adding the getting slowed when getting shot in sprint aspect in Halo 4 is a step in the right direction but is it enough to require better map positioning?
What I would like to see:
Minimum Kill times between 1-1.3 seconds this would be faster than Halo 2-3 but slower than Halo CE. This would require players to position themselves properly on maps and have better awareness. Not so much as the punishment for being in a slightly exposed position means death as in Halo CE but almost equivalent to Halo 2-3. The kill times should be lower than Halo 2-3 because of the mobility of sprint and the ability to reach destinations across the map faster.
All of the Precision Weapons should have the same minimum kill times that way one player cannot choose a “greater” gun to achieve victory in a skirmish. It does not matter if these weapons require a different amount of shots to kill. Using guns that require more shots to kill will require more skill, but will be rewarding to skillful players as they can hit more shots in a smaller amount of time. Therefore a skillful player in a prime location on a map can hit 2-3 shots before a player can hit 2 shots with a gun requiring less shots to kill, weakening the player for teammates to clean up or clean up by them self.
