I’m finishing up my H5 Legendary solo run when I just realized something. Now that it is pretty much confirmed that Cortana is going to be the final boss or main antagonist in Halo 6, Halo 4 is completely irrelevant to the new trilogy. Nothing in that game has any impact at all to what is happening now. A person could skip 4 entirely and jump right into 5 without missing a thing, with the only important thing that they need to know is that Cortana died at the end of 4. I kind of expected the Didact to make a return, him being the one in Cortana’s position for 5’s campaign, people keep telling me he is alive from the comics. Maybe they might fix this in Halo 6, but am I the only one who felt that they wasted their time knowing this after the fact?
Keep in mind, that I haven’t read any of the lore since Glasslands (stopped about halfway through). Maybe some of this is explored there, but I can’t help but feel I got tricked.
Halo 4 explains the prometheans halo 5 doesn’t.
To a certain extent. But H4 still does a lot to deepen our understanding of how close MC and Cortana really are. And shows just how valuable a Spartan II can be in world full of Spartan IVs.
How is it completely irrelevant? Halo 4 was the whole reason she and john ended up split up.
It’s always been worthless, sorry can’t resist
, at least multiplayer wise.

Agreed, always been a terrible game for both multi and campaign.

Like I said, the only thing you need to know is that Cortana died.

But the prometheans don’t even play a part in this story. The only time it is referenced again that prometheans are humans is when Exuberant corrects Tanaka on Warden Eternal being a robot (I’m assuming Warden is a promethean).

Crawlers, soldiers, Knights, watchers, wardens. All prometheans
EDIT: the bodies of wardens are of promethean construct but himself is a separate AI.
And if she hadn’t sacrificed herself maybe Halsey would’ve healed her.
You might try and argue there was no way she was getting off that ship alive anyways. If that’s true then MC actually was willing to sacrifice her to save Earth because he could’ve gone straight to Halsey to try and heal Cortana but chose to stop the Didact when he had the chance.

Why do you think the Campaign was terrible?

But as I’m asking, how does it affect the story at all in this game? Beside the fact that they are your enemy and you have to kill them, what else from Halo 4 about them is brought up or explored in this game. If I missed something, I would be grateful if someone wanted to point it out to me.

Did you read my posts? Maybe you don’t feel like the points I brought up are that important but I think they did a great job of showing the depth of the relationship between MC and Cortana and that is critical to what happens in H5.

It’s like a series of unfortunate events honestly.
The Chief just happens to drift across Requiem, and just happens to be there when the Covenant Fleet and the Infinity arrive. He just happens to be tricked into releasing the Didactic and from there it’s like a deus ex machina ending where he defeats the Didact, who is the single most powerful Promethean ever… And then to cap it off we get treated to Spartan Ops which was basically a second lame campaign, except it didn’t even have a coherent or sensible plot…

I guess I don’t feel that way, because MC and Cortana’s relationship hardly mattered here. Regardless of how MC feels about Cortana’s plan or how Cortana feels about MC not going along with it, she was still going to do it anyway. Maybe if this story was more focused on their relationship, I’d probably feel the same way, but being constantly along with Osiris made me believe that isn’t what they were going for.
I just don’t see it.

The promethean are specifically designed to be “composed” humans whom have been rebuilt as machines through the reverse process of the composer. As such the Didact (somewhat the same as the h4 Ur- Didact) purposed their design and weapon choice to SPECIFICALLY kill flood during the late Forerunner Flood War. If you played the original trilogy you would see that the flood is the main infestation and now in the second trilogy/saga we found something designed to kill the flood effectively.
Now one if you paid attention to halo 4 this would be annoying common knowledge from the campaign and terminals.
In halo 5 the only new thing is the soldier variant whoes duty is to protect certain forerunner asset sites, such as the guardians. And their weapon have altered in purposed because as explained in h4 the prometheans adapt to their opponents and as such they are now changing to fight humans. Btw halo 5 doesn’t even go into how the prometheans are made, just that they are there.

The Didact is actually a forerunner, living and breathing. He is also top in his military ranks thus the armor resemblance.

Yes the Didact is a Forerunner, he is also a Promethean. Before the Didact created the Prometheans we know in the current time Prometheans were the elite of the Warrior Servant caste.

Chief happens to drift across Requiem, true. But the Covenant had been there for a while. The Infinity was searching for Forward Unto Dawn.
In Combat Evolved, Chief just happened to be almost tricked by Guilty Spark into firing the ring. Just because it happened doesn’t make it bad, eh?
Was there anything wrong with how Chief defeated the Didact? The Didact was kind of tethered to the ground…
Spartan Ops isn’t part of the Campaign. It’s just an extra feature.
Nah, Spartan Ops is worthless in Halo 4. They might as well have given Halsey’s arm back.
