The VGAs are kind of a joke of an award show 
I personally look at GDC’s awards they give out each year for games.
What it is nominated under both BEST SHOOTER
, BEST MULTI-PLAYER, Best Original Score, Best Graphics, Best Preformance By a Human Female and BEST XBOX 360 GAME
As for GOTY I think the VGA prefer to elect cross-platform games instead of exclusive one as I have seen only but a few on them in the last VGA GOTY.

I never pay attention to game of the year awards anymore…none of them. They and gaming media as a whole are all biased as far as I’m concerned. I’m my own judge if I enjoy something.

343 also got nominated for best studio.
Halo 4 is one of the most nominated games for the vga’s, but didn’t get a GOTY nominated. Borderlands 2 also got snuffed a GOTY. They must be trying to avoid shooters from flooding the industry. dishonored got a GOTY nom, but I don’t know anyone who played it.
I once listened to the VGAs and I thinked that most of their awards were awful and that this show was just for hollywood stars.
For exemple, I saw once (I think it was in 2009-2010) that the best voice actor of the year was MEGAN FOX…are you serious? There were voice actors by then that were better than her!
So let the VGAs do their awful show and watch another one, it will be better I assure you.

TBH I don’t think Halo 4 deserves GOTY. It’s awesome but not 10/10.
