Being a ten year Halo Vet at the age of 21 I can give you some good insight on the future of Halo 4 and it’s past. Put into simple parts.
Nostalgia
Is a problem. A group of fans who think that Halo 2 and Halo 3 are perfect Halo games. They would make you believe neither game had problems. Would probably totally forget each games faults. However does not mean Halo 2 or Halo 3 were not good games, I loved them. I played Halo 2 and Halo 3 all the time.
I personally have so many fond memories of Halo 2, However I don’t let feelings of nostalgia blind my ability to remember things.
Halo2: Dumbed down the game, Added a mess of autoaim and noob friendly features. Split weapons in half due to duel wielding, guns were unbalanced, and had tons of glitches (some were fun but some were cheap and needed fixing).
If you have never played Halo 2 and you were to listen to most of these guys you would have thought Halo 2 was the best -Yoink- ever.
Halo 2 (and 3) are amazing. I enjoyed them, even when some people were ranting and raving about how “bad” they were. I find them good. I still enjoy them. However they are not perfect and should be nothing more then inspirations for Halo 4.
That feeling. I know that feeling bro
That feeling you get when you think of the customs of Halo 3 or your first time in Halo 2 seem good right? Yet you don’t understand. YOU…WILL…NEVER…FEEL…IT…AGAIN. If Halo 2 came out again with new graphics, and was exacyly the same, I mean 100% Halo 2 (but with new graphics) you still wouldn’t feel it. Infact you’d probably find yourself wondering where the -Yoink- Forge is or where “X” feature is.
I love the idea of playing Halo 2 online again. Yet it’s just going to be another game still. It wont feel the same. It may be fun but if Halo 4 were anymore then a taste of Halo 2 it would be TERRIBLE. Or so bland and average you would find it boring.
Sorry. I love dat feeling bros (and sises) but it wont come back. Halo 4 can be perfect and you still wont feel dat Halo 2/3 feel. Sorry.
Other Games
Remember Halo 2 seemed legit and MLG pro/status because there wasn’t really many other console games with any “skill” level at all. Halo 2 really brought in that kinda game to MLG and made it popular, However Halo is good with or without MLG.
Yet Halo isn’t the only good console game. There is a ton of games people are playing, online or offline. Call of Duty, Gears of War, Mass Effect, Saints Row, Several Fighting Games and so on.
And Halo is a ten year old game. And a ton of people still play it. Yet if you expect Halo 4 to be #1 if it is just Halo 2 or Halo 3 again you are sadly wrong. It takes more then that to be #1. We can just hope Halo 4 has enough things to bring in a ton of new people and keep them for awhile.
Reach 2.0
Nope. I don’t want Halo Reach again either. Just going to point this out. I like Halo Reach but I don’t want to play it again.
And I shall end with this
Just sit down and enjoy the game. I have for ten years. I loved Halo:CE, When people hated on Halo 2 I loved Halo2, when people were meh about Halo3 I was HELLL YEAAA about Halo 3, and now as people complain about Halo Reach I still play it and enjoy myself.
Yet asking 343 to just bring you Halo2 or Halo3 again wont happen. It won’t make a good game. Or at least it wont make a very original or interesting game. Halo to be a clone of itself is something we should never ask for. The best I think you can hope for is that 343 makes a Halo 2 remake on it’s ten year.
I bet Halo 4 is going to be amazing. It’s a new trilogy and a new game. I think 343 is going to blow us away one way or another. Maybe with Campaign, Maybe with Mutliplayer maybe they will blow us away like Bungie did with Forge, Theater and Firefight. Either way I’m exited for the new ride.
I’m putting the past behind me. They are fond memories I will cherish and never forget. Yet I know time is not written and should never be cloned or duplicated. Good memories come from new moments, Not the same memories repeated.
Halo 4 will be great. As Halo 5 and Halo 6 will.
