Ok, so 343 screwed the pooch. Halo 4 isn’t very good. The campaign is short, boring (go here shoot this push this button and repeat), and it’s story was garbage. The multiplayer at least presented some new ideas, it’s just that most of them were -Yoink-. Normally in these circumstances I would say something like “well at least they tried” except they didn’t try. Halo is still the same stagnate puddle filth it has been since Halo 3.
Anyway I have a couple of concepts that could save the franchise. Halo 5 can still be good people.
-
Pretend the events of Halo 3, Reach, ODST never took place and write an actually good story starting exactly were Halo 2 ended.
-
In game weapon customization. Say you come up a group of sleeping grunts, overseen by a lone elite. You don’t wanna wake anybody up so you pop on a silencer and an agog scope to kill him silently from a distance using select fire to pop off a single shot. Then you strap on a chainsaw attachment because sometimes your dumb like that.
-
Employ an actual writer to come up the games story and dialog so it doesn’t come off as a comic book written by a limited chimpanzee.
-
Liberal use of full frontal nudity.
-
Include the ability to interact with environments and people aside from just killing them. For example have a mini-game in which you stabilize a wounded marine. Then present the option throughout the game to act as a medic if you feel like it.
I don’t have any ideas for multiplayer. I have resigned myself to the fact that it’s never going to be perfect or even good.
Needless to say none of this will ever come to be. Video game developers despise innovation.
Halo 4 doesn’t really suck. It just isn’t good. It’s like mashed potatoes, bland, even with gravy. It doesn’t piss me off but doesn’t get me excited. The game is finally what it took for me to leave the series. I hoped 343 would take some risks but all they did was perpetuate the same boring exercise.
