Guys listen to what you’re saying. You’re saying you want halo to play like past Halo games and you want halo 4 to be just like the other Halo games. Well to be honest here you guys are slaughtering at the title of a new trilogy. It’s new it should not play like any of the Halos it should be something we have yet to see or yet to come by that’s what makes a game, or breaks a game. Yet I could care less about graphics and all that nonsense. Halo 4 will play on the Halo Reach engine which is a good start, it looks fantastic and the textures are just great.
The real main factor is the storyline. I want the campaign to be more important than Halo 4s multiplayer. I would love to play the campaign more than the multiplayer. There is a lot to learn from other Halo games and I’m sure 343 knows what went wrong and how they can fix and improvise all of it to be over the top FPS.
I just don’t want to see it slaughtered down by all of this community input into Halo 4. And then when it releases, it will just be another Halo 2.5/3. I don’t want that, I want something new. I’m sure 343 know what they’re doing. I have all my trust into the company. And I hope they have learned campaign beats multiplayer any day. And that sometimes you need to silence the community just to make a great game.
I certainly don’t want a Halo 2.5/3.5.
But it’d be nice to some resemblance to the original trilogy. 343i is going to have to blend a whole new formula while keeping a certain quality from the previous installments. It’s not going to be easy, so be aware that it may not be everything you want.
agree with OP. there is no need to continue with past trilogy styled games. halo 4 is to reinvent halo.
Excuse me, but you seem to be a bit misinformed. Sure, there are few people who possibly want the game to play exactly like Halo 2 or 3. But most of the people who say they want the game to play like Halo 2/3 are trying to say is that they don’t want another game that plays as bad as Reach.
But there is one certain aspect that should be very, very similar to teh original trilogy, the core mechanics. These make the game to feel like a Halo game and if they are changed too much (Reach), the game becomes too different and possibly unplayable to some people.
Then what comes to new innovations. Sure, there can be some as long as they aren’t part of the core mechanics, but work around the core mechanics. Because essentially only thing we want is to play a game that feels like an actual Halo game, has a big skill gap, and is interesting even if you have lots of experience with the game. These all are things that Reach failed to do, that’s why some people would rather want the exact old gameplay back than have the developers take another huge risk.
So in most aspects, mainly the core mechanics, Halo 4 should have very strong resemblance to the original trilogy. But it can also have a bit of new stuff that don’t majorly impact on how the game plays. We already have this magnificent thing that is the Halo formula, why try changing that? You can’t succeed if you try to make a wheel the shape of a square, everything always has one ideal shape and we know what that is for Halo.
P.S. I hate the term Halo x.5, could people please be so nice to not use it. Most of the time it’s a sign of lack of knowledge and thereby hurts the user the most. It may seem like an appropriate joke, but reality it’s a joke that already expired the first time it was used.
Ya halo 4 still has to feel like your plating a halo game but with brand new weapons and abilities. Lets face the facts if anyone feels that the assault rifle will be the main weapon to start with then they want a halo 2.5 or 3.5 I want a lot of brand new weapons but have some old return to help the game fell more lile classic halo to ease people into the game.
I don’t want Halo be the same as CE or 2 or 3, I want it to be a mix of all the ultimate in the series; the quality of the maps and weapons, the balance of the maps, the campaign experience and equipment (no AA’s), and Reaches amount of customisation turned into some unfrigenbelievably good.
I will be happy with anything that isn’t in the Reach direction- not because it was too different, but because it was different in a bad way (no balance in MM, cannon breaking story which wasn’t on par with the epicness and awesomeness of previous games, more minor stuff).

Hur dur whatcha thinks on the forward unto Dawn? Assault rifles and Br’s,
WWAAAH IT MUZT PLAY EAXATKLY LIKE HALO 2 OR 3. IF IT IS NOT THE SAME IT WILL BE BAD WAAHH.

I agree with the OP. 343i should make a new identity for themselves and embrace Halo 4 as a new trilogy with new ideas. One reason why I absolutely loved Reach is that it had a perfect balance of feeling like the old Halo we know and love, and combining new elements into the game.
I’d rather 343 just do what they think they should do and not listen to the really bad suggestions.
I can’t believe you want halo 4 to be built off the reach engine are you mad?
I can’t believe this. Halo 4 needs to be alot different from halo reach. Have you ever even played any other halos? Halo 4 needs to run on a different engine.
> I can’t believe you want halo 4 to be built off the reach engine are you mad?
Give me one reason why not.
> I can’t believe this. Halo 4 needs to be alot different from halo reach. Have you ever even played any other halos? Halo 4 needs to run on a different engine.
Technically every Halo game runs on the same engine, its just an evolution of bungie’s internal tech.
> I can’t believe you want halo 4 to be built off the reach engine are you mad?
Halo Reaches engine had nothing to do with how Reach played as a game.
Reaches Engine is great, graphics are nice on it (textures mainly, see details like the hexagons on elites armour if you zoom in? Or bark on certain types of trees, or the black bits on the armour on a Spartan)
Reaches engine just needs real time lighting, and obviously a graphical upgrade, and that’s what they’re doing, a modifying the engine, although I doubt they will put real time lighting into the engine, although halo needs some good lightning.
I just want Halo 4 to keep to Halo. The only possiblities im horrified at are the addition of CoD and MW style gameplay. My god… Throwing knives and airstrikes? This is Halo! And I agree with you on the campaign. Focus on the story more than multiplayer. Don’t listen to the ones who most likely just want to make funny noises into the mic and -Yoink!- enemies. Don’t listen to the ones who want to take away what makes Halo the game it is… Halo. This is my only wish. I’ll be with Halo for as long as I can. As long as Halo is Halo… there will be at least 1 fan.
And guys, by using the Reach engine again, they mean upgrading it. Adding on to it. Making it better. Trust me, it won’t look like Reach at all. They can use the same engine, but change a hundred different things. Colors will be brigther, Forerunner colors wont be the same dull gray. Skyboxes, boundries, whatever. It won’t look like Reach. They’re not just taking the engine and making a game based off it. They are modeling the engine around the game.

Reach’s lighting was so basic. Overlook looks weird without the fog effects, Powerhouse and levels like Tip of the Spear looked like the Sun was directly above you at all times.
I want Battlefield 3 style lighting for Halo 4, personally. Like his armor lights illuminating the immediate vicinity, swinging lampshades (or whatever lightsources are on that planet), etc.

What tsassi said.^
I agree. 343 should make the game they see fit. I don’t think they will deviate from the core of what is Halo, but they should still make the game they think will lead the series for another decade…

Agreed, hence why it needs real time lightning, Battlefield 3 or Cysis 1’s lighting would be perfect. It’s about time Halo got some love in the lighting effects.
I hate shining my torch on shadows and the shadow still stays there
Things like that bug me, it’s because Bungie just “painted” the shadows on, instead of the lighting actually making an object cast it’s own shadows, however, CE Aniv, seems to have better lighting, but it’s still got some of the “Painted” shadows…
