Halo 4 is an ok game, but it isn't Halo.

Halo is the reason I got into xbox. I played Halo 2 for tons of hours and I loved everything about it. I also played a ton of H3 and thought the game was awesome. It wasn’t as good as H2, but I still had tons of fun on it. I also played Halo Reach quite a bit, but not nearly as much as H2 or H3.

Reach just kinda lost the Halo feel. I mean Bungie had an (almost) perfect formula with H2/H3, and then they decided they had to change it, by adding pointless AAs and Loadouts. And then what happened with Reach? Oh yeah, the population declined and more, and, more Halo players switched to CoD/BF3.

Why did Reach fail? Because people liked Halo for the simplicity. Everything that was added to Reach ruined the simplicity of Halo. You see, almost every FPS now days is similar to CoD or BF3. Many people played Halo because it was different. It had a simple, fresh feeling to it. Halo doesn’t need AAs, or Loadouts, or perks, or Sprint, to keep people playing. It needs that simple feeling back.

When I look at Halo 4, I see yet another one of those BF3/CoD style shooters. In fact, the game almost reminds me of Crysis 2. In H4 there are loadouts, perks, hoppers for one gametype, ordinance, instspawns, and default sprint. Everything added ruins the simplicity and makes the game feel like another CoD/BF3 style shooter. Halo 4 is fun and all but it doesn’t have the Halo feel to it. I like the game, but I can see myself going back to H3 in the future to play a real Halo game.

I know, I know, H4 is still technically a Halo game and some of you guys might love it. But I just don’t see it as a Halo game. I understand 343i is trying to keep Halo fresh, but it doesn’t mean they had to change the game completely. Also, campaign sucked.

EDIT: Guys, I don’t hate the campaign, I’m just not a fan of the ending.

I respected your opinion until that last bit. You just had to throw that in didn’t you?

I agree mostly although I thought Campaign was ok even though it was too fast paced and felt like it had pieces missing. You will however get a lot of people on these forums that will flame you for having an opinion sadly.

I respect you opinion, Not the last part because you have not produced any firm evidence to back such a statement up, but i have to disagree.

Halo 4 is Halo to me. 343i have left a couple of things out which is good and bad in everyone’s books, but only the vocal minority come on the forums and belittle the game. It happens after every launch. Even the ‘fabled’ Halo 2 had this happen.

still feels like Halo to me

It says Halo in the title of the game. That’s good enough for me.

Yep, I agree with you for the most part, but I think the multi-player still feels like Halo. Reach didn’t feel like Halo, but was still a good game.

And I have to agree that the campaign in Halo 4 was bad. It was fine in the beginning, but some of the cutscenes and dialog didn’t fit. but near the end it started to seem to much like a soap opera and not enough like Halo, at least in my opinion.

Reach didn’t fail because the features were just implemented, it failed because they were implemented extremely poorly. Armor Abilities and Loadouts have increased 10 times in quality from Reach.

Most people just assume they’re bad because they didn’t work right in Reach, and used “Ruining Simplicity” as an excuse.

> I respected your opinion until that last bit. You just had to throw that in didn’t you?

Lol yeah, that end part was kinda a joke. Just had to do it. Like I said, H4 is a pretty fun game, it just seems like another BF3/CoD style FPS.

I have played all of the halo games and it is exactly the same as before so stop whining.

Agreed with everything you said, though I really liked the campaign.

The beauty of Halo was its simplicity. Just a couple of guys battling it out with a battlerifle and some powerweapons. Nothing fancy, just great maps, tactical play and gunskill.

Now with all these powerweapons, no more powerpositions, random weapon drops, instant spawns, ordinances, sprinting around the map in 10 seconds, armour abilities etc. etc. the simplicity is gone. No simplicity, no tactical play and less gunskill.

Halo has become an arena shooter, full of randomness and chaos.

Halo 4 is allright, but it should have been called something different than Halo.

you jusdt crossed the line :l… HAND ME MY WHIP!!!

Agreed. The one thing Halo 4 has going for it is that it’s better than Reach. But let’s be honest, that isn’t exactly a massive feat.

I liked every halo game except halo 4, I found halo reach to be fun and refreshing, it was fun to see spartan III’s fighting with experimental tech… but then halo 4 did it, which I thought was okay at first… but then came along the hitmarkers, killcams, killstreaks, unlockable weapons/armour abilities/perks/emblems/etc and it just doesn’t look or feel like halo anymore, add on the removal of elites from multiplayer and it just feels that much more like (yeah yeah I’ll say it) call of duty.

For the most part I have to agree, its a great game… just not a halo game.

I think it should be emphasized that 343 is merely making an update to the last Halo (Reach) that Bungie released. I don’t blame 343 at all; it was really Reach that started all of that AA weirdness. If anything, 343 managed to real it back in a little to a game that can be played as if it were a Halo game. It’s not Halo as we knew in 2001, but that was ten years ago.

Lol guys, the campaign was pretty good, just some weird cut scenes and a bad ending. Just my opinion though.

It plays nothing like previous Halos. Thats not a bad thing. Its a great thing. I don’t want 343 following Bungie’s formula. I want 343 to follow the set story while delivering their game. They have done both.

Halo 4’s Campaign was impressive in my opinion. It was a helluva lot better then Reachs

I think it is Halo!

They have indeed delivered their game, and it isn’t as good as previous Halo games. Except Reach.
