Battlefield? Competitive? Are you serious?
The problem with Halo ‘evolving’ (Which it could easily have done WITHOUT ruining it’s core, as well designed Custom Games can prove). Is that it didn’t ‘evolve’ intelligently, it just had a ton of gimmicks thrown in that wouldn’t have been that bad if they didn’t feel like forcing squares in where we should have gotten circles.
343i went out of their way to make this game’s default setting as random, chaotic, frustrating, and unskill-based as possible, by injecting the word RANDOM into almost every new feature they added to the game.
Custom Loadouts would be ok if it wasn’t for the fact that all the Sidearms, Grenade Types, and Armour Abilities are so radically different, that when you run into an enemy he effectively has a RANDOM set of weapons/superpowers to work with, and you have no way of predicting what they are.
Personal Ordinance is a fine and dandy idea, up until the part where what you actually get to choose from is complete RANDOM.
And RANDOM ordinance is probably the worst of the 3. The actual NAME OF THE FEATURE is RANDOM ORDINANCE.
Random is a factor that should not exist in as a natural feature in Halo. It didn’t exist in Halo CE, and only existed in Halo 2 in the form of internet latency. The existence of “Random” ruins any chance this game ever had of being good.
Halo 3 had BR spread. Which was a random factor that helped make that game difficult to stomach.
Halo Reach had Armour Abilities, Bloom, Grenade Aim Assist, and no Bleed Through, which made that game a mess.
Halo 4 is taking Halo Reach, the worst of the franchise before it, and building on it’s running theme of throwing more unnecessary crap that accomplishes nothing more than to give your enemy the constant unfair advantage of being completely unpredictable without actually doing anything.
