What do you guys think of the old Infinity trailer?
I remember when I watched it a year ago. It got me so pumped for this game.
A well-done epic trailer, explaining well about the different sections of the Infinity we would be able to access, and showing us cool graphics, menus, as well as gameplay.
"Welcome to the beginning of your new Spartan career" - This part seriously got me hooked. I love being immersed in the Halo universe as my own character/Spartan, and this was just what I was looking for. The art style was just spectacular, I loved it!
In our final build of the Halo 4 game, we lost some of what we saw in the trailer. This includes;
-
That feeling of “epicness”.
-
War Games doesn’t make me feel like I’m my Spartan in a training simulation. I just feel like I’m playing a Halo-themed modern shooter game with an “arcade” feel.
-
Beautiful, beautiful menus such as the SPARTAN OPS: BRIEFING ROOM as seen in the trailer. The cutscene that showed right after it made me think that it would actually be a spectacular, “second campaign”. But that cutscene wasn’t even used in Spartan Ops and we just have very short, inferior in-game cutscenes for Spartan Ops.
-
Cool pop-ups and sounds used in the trailer such as at 1:07 in the video.
-
Spartan Ops Episode Countdown
-
VERY different design for post-game carnage reports. Also, the trailer reveals at 1:19 that this game was originally supposed to run on military ranks like in Reach for it’s progression system than the “SR-level ranks” we have today.
-
Fancier armor and loadout menus.
-
"The line between fiction, competitive multiplayer, and campaign is erased aboard Infinity. Your every action affects the story, the ship, and the very fate of the galaxy".
Whenever I’m playing Halo 4, I never feel this way. The game does a poor job of explaining things going on in the universe, confusing players and forcing some to go read and buy the books. Competitive multiplayer, I feel, is still completely a separate branch. I thought that it was a nice idea for War Games to be “canon”, but if you think about it, it doesn’t really make any sense.
Most of my friends didn’t touch campaign after finishing it. When I played Spartan Ops, I never felt like my “every action” was “affecting the story, the ship, and the very fate of the galaxy” because I was just an anonymous member of Fireteam Crimson who just pressed buttons (still enjoy pressing them though) and cleared areas of enemies while all the other Fireteams like Majestic, Castle, and Shadow got to do all the fun stuff.
All I’m trying to say is that 343i and Microsoft here (whoever, idrc) did not make this game nearly live up to its potential. I want to see a full remake of Halo 4 in the near future after Halo 5, but with many things altered but will still make everything flow properly for Halo 5.
