So halo 4 in my opinion is quite an oddity, both campaign and multiplayer. But for now I’m just going to talk about campaign. Before i begin these are my opinions so don’t get your d*ck in a twist.
So halo 4 has arguably the best canpaign in the series, would I agree?.. well yes and no. Now that may seem confusing but let me explain. Let’s first talk about the story of halo 4, it’s great and definitely the best next to halo 2. While it isn’t perfect and there are definitely some wonky areas. The story continues to amaze me more every time i play it. I used to think the didact was some cliche and dumb villain, but now i think the didact is a perfectly fine villain and that it’s more of the fact that he is underused. Of course the best part of the campaign is the chief and cortana narrative. Every single man woman and child have cried at the death of cortana, and that proves how powerful the story is. “If the story is so great then why does halo 4 have the best and the worst campaign?” I can hear you saying now, and i have an answer. You see while halo 4’s story is amazing, the gameplay is something else all together. Halo 4’s gameplay sucks major sangheili cloaca. One of the biggest problem with it are the constant linear paths, now the original halos did have some linear paths but they didn’t use them all the time like halo 4 does. My least favorite level in the game is definitely infinity, because in that level you are just traveling through an enclosed linear jungle. There are a few missions i enjoyed, there was dawn, forerunner, composer and midnight. But another big issues come from the weapons, they run out so fast and i have looked into it and i still can’t figure out why. The new weapons are a problem too, while i enjoy some of them, storm rifle, light rifle, and binary rifle. All the others are useless. The suppressor is the worst of them all, it feels like you are spraying your enemies with paintballs when you use it. Don’t ever use it unless you absolutely have to. The boltshot is weird because the primary attack it is impossible to aim and you would be lucky to get a headshot. The secondary attack is kind of useful, if you like going right in front of a knight where they can one hit melee attack you. The scattershot is okay, there isn’t much to talk about its basically a not as good shotgun. The last thing that is wrong with halo 4’s gameplay is how repetitive it is. I can’t count the number of times my objective was destroy the energy balls or press all the panels.
If i were to rate halo 4, it would be a 7/10. Because even though gameplay is awful, the story really is that amazing. That’s pretty much it, i just wanted to tell everyone my thoughts on halo 4. I’m really curious to know what you think of the game.
I agree mostly here, Halo 4 is an oddity to me. For some reason I find myself having an odd urge to pop it in and play through some campaign or even hit up some multiplayer. Next to Halo 2, Halo 4 definitely has the best campaign story wise for me, although the prometheans feel under written and boring after awhile. My biggest gripe with Halo 4 I suppose is more in the multiplayer aspect with the load outs and ordinance. Just wasn’t Halo at that point

While i understand why you don’t like it, i personally enjoyed halo 4’s multiplayer. It was just casual and fun in my opinion.
Hey thanks for your post, it’s interesting seeing how other people experienced certain games. I did enjoy the campaign though it just wasn’t my favorite unfortunately as I just could not get into the Promethean’s… I’m the same as BarrelBeast 989 as I found them boring and annoying… Also agree about running around pressing panels! I haven’t played the campaign again due to the Promethean’s and Promethean weapons don’t appeal to me except the Binary Rifle! Love that thing and wish I could add it to my loadouts. As far as MP goes, I’m on H4 BTB everyday and agree that it is casual and fun when I’m not having connectivity issues which is most of the time
Anyway maybe I need to give the campaign another go and see if I can get a different view of story line…
I agree ZacB, the panels grow old, my main issue for the campaign is that while the story is some of the best stuff in the series, the level design and encounters don’t feel all that memorable aside from maybe Requiem and Composer.

Exactly one of my points in my argument. The level design is awful in halo 4, and I think my favorite levels are composer and forerunner (Forerunner is definitely underrated in my opinion)
Forerunner and Composer are dope for sure. I just remember feeling compelled by the story and cut scenes to finish the game! But I don’t really think any of the levels or battles within those levels really stood out to me overall. It’s a weird feeling for me on Halo 4, It’s a mystery why it pulls me towards it so often even with all the different feelings I have towards it. It’s like an ex girlfriend I can’t walk away from
Well due to this post I’ve started playing the campaign again! So far so good… Funny thing that when I first played the campaign I had no multiplayer experience and upon getting into the campaign again my ability is so much better (makes sense right) which makes me enjoy it even more

I’m sorry that I encouraged you to play halo 4’s campaign. I can only imagine how bored you are. But seriously though, good luck to you on your legendary play through.

Lol don’t be sorry, it’s like watching a movie again for the second time and seeing things you missed when you first watched it! Bored? No as it’s a nice change from MP for me and I’ll take my time and enjoy it for what it is 🖒 Legendary play through? Settle down I’m not that good
Eh…Halo 4 is okay, but it is probably my least favorite of all the games. I never liked the Prometheans in this game and the story is a convoluted mess.

I narrowed your description down to my favorite parts of how you described the problems. The ending with Cortana touching Chief, and Chief being all shy about it was pretty cringey for me to watch…it just seemed really awkward to me, but the rest of the story was really cool. The precision weapons made the gunplay more solid and reliable, but the excessively linear paths were dull. I think a 7/10 for the campaign is a fair rating.
