Halo 4 has an underwhelming soundtrack

So I was playing halo 4’s campaign on the master chief collection, and I’ve been noticing that Halo 4’s soundtrack isn’t very impressive. Previous halo game’s soundtracks were brilliant and epic, especially halo 3’s. The music made some moments become epic scenes and would make you feel like a badass. Halo 4’s soundtrack just doesn’t do this for me. Now don’t get me wrong, the music is decent, but when you listen to previous halo soundtracks, it pales in comparison. Anybody know why the soundtrack isn’t as flashy and epic anymore? Tell me what you think. Now, keep in mind that this is just my opinion.

Underwhelming is an understatement. I’d call it a straight up disappointment.

I actually bought the first 2 Halo soundtracks on CD when it came out years ago cause there were some Ambient sections that were really good.

Now let’ see how many fanboys will rage on this thread.

I bought the Halo 4 soundtrack as I did all the other soundtracks from Halo. I would probably agree it was a disappointment, but only in the context of Halo. I thought it was good, just not the type of Halo music we are used too.

Marty is the reason why 4 had a lack of great soundtrack. He worked on the other halo games but not 4.

He moved on with bungie to do destinys soundtrack. They had a falling out, and marty was fired. Despite this, the music for destiny was great despite the many short comings of the game itself

I woud hope 343i would nabb marty before soneone else does. Halo 5 could use martys talents.

Look up martin o’donnel (referenced as marty for short)

yes its horrible

I agree. Halo 3’s music set the standards so high for gaming soundtracks!

“117” is a great track on an otherwise awful soundtrack. And if I’m not mistaken, that’s the only track on the thing that wasn’t written by Neil Davidge. So 343 made the right choice firing that guy before Halo 5 production started.

Halo 2 and Halo 3 had the best in my opinion.

If I put a Halo soundtrack on to just listen to it Halo 4’s would not be my first choice. I don’t think it horrible, but I also don’t get the same feeling of excitement I get from listening to one of the older soundtracks with the exception of 117 which coincidentally borrows the heaviest from Marty’s work.

All the aside I think I was more disappointed in the sound mixing throughout the game. There were multiple occasions where I could barely hear the music (especially in the cutscenes) and I felt that it would have added to the experience if I could.

Agreed. Except arrival though! When this soundtrack occured in the last mission, the halo feeling flew through me once again.

I agree, dude. Halo 4 had a decent soundtrack but it didn’t sound like halo at all. I could barely hear it at times too. Marty should’ve stayed to make the score for the game, he made the tracks for the last 3 games so why get rid of him now and replace him with someone else? The previous soundtracks were so loud and dramatic! Halo 4’s didn’t come close. I understand that the series is going in a new direction but changing the composer was a mistake
