I am by no means a representitve of the competitve community.
In fact, I do not even have a copy of the game myself. Everything you are about to read is based off of opinions, videos, and community feedback via waypoint.
Start:
Halo 4 has potential. Simple as that. It can be the best game in the series, easily, from my version of a competitve standpoint.
The problem is how it is set up.
Problems:
1: Lack of Friendly Fire.
For a game like Halo, friendly fire is a must. Why? Because it makes you think. Halo has to me, always been about strategy and out playing your adversary. Taking out FF takes out tactical depth. Now I don’t have to think about where I place my rockets our grenades, because if my teammate treads on them, they won’t die.
So I can pick up a rocket and spam it down the nearest hallway without any consequences? For me, thats a no-no.
2: Ordinance.
Don’t get me wrong, this looks to be a fun little tool, but it brings far to much randomness to this game. Now I don’t really have to work for my powerweapons. Why? Because rather than being forced to outplay my adversary as I make a rush for the powerweapon, I can simply camp with a boltshot and have the weapon delivered to my doorstep.
For me, that’s not fun. I used to have to work for my kills, and while this is fun to play around when you’re just having a fun little game, it’s not good if you wan’t to play competitive. Why? Because it is random. If an enemy and I call in ordinance, I might get something like “Needler, (insert something), grenades i already have.”
My enemy however might get “Needler, Binary rifle, damage boost” or something like that. That’s not really fair, or balanced.
3: Weapons on Map.
Simply put, weapons on map isn’t a must. However, it does bring around a higher regard of map control. One has to fight for the power weapons placed on the map, from plasma pistol, to rocket to sniper, to even incineary canon if you want. Anything really, because now I’m not just delevered a weapon after five kills. I have to fight for that weapon.
End notes:
Guys, these are just my thoughts on implemented ideas. To me, some things need to be changed for a competitive gametype to emerge.
I am in no way saying this needs to happen to all gametypes. The game is fine, it’s fun, and while I personally will not be playing infinity slayer, I do think it’s got a level of fun for everybody to enjoy.
My thoughts are simply put towards a more balanced and competitve side. I know Slayer Pro is supposed to be just that, but slayer pro has it’s problems too.
I’d like to see something where I can choose my own loadouts, but not have to worry about the utter randomness that ordinance drops bring. I don’t want to feel like I’m playing a game generated around mindless killing, with little to no tactical depth and rewards anyone who is playing the game.
I know people won’t agree with me. I know people will say “Adapt” or something along the lines. I’m ok with that. I’m not asking people to agree with me, even though some people will. I’m simply putting my idea out there.
So guys, post below whether or not you agree with me.
If yes: Tell me what suggestions you have for a competitive playlist.
If no: Tell me why, put out your suggestions if you have any.
TL;DR
I think Halo 4 has a ton of potential, it just isn’t set up properly. Post your thoughts below. If you do post your thoughts, I suggest you do read the full post, just to understand where I am coming from.
Thanks guys!
