Halo 4, Halo 5 - The Disappointing Sequel

To start with I this is my first post on Halo Waypoint Forum and I am FAR from happy.

So Halo 5 came out a game I have been waiting for since finishing Halo 4, which I found to be one of the best in the series. When I finished it I couldn’t stop talking about it, couldnt wait for the next one… How wrong I was.

Played the Halo 5 beta which was a disappointment to say the least, I was hoping the actual game would redeem itself. I was sorely mistaken… Halo 5 was atrocious, story telling was nothing, reminiscent of a childs bedtime story it was that short. Finished in less than 5 hours on normal, where Halo 4 was far, far longer (at this time I cannot access the Halo 4 server to retrieve my time) as where the rest of the series.

I feel that the majority of time was spent on the multiplayer - congrats for bowing to the pandering needs of 14 year old kids - Do we really need the Titanfall-eqsue 45 second introduction to Warzone? No, no we dont.

What happened to Rumble Pit? CTF? Domination? Land Grab? Action Sack? Team Heavies? King of the Hill? Regicide? Oddball? Flood? Zombies? Nothing just slayer.

All we got was 4 different types of 4 player Slayer and shockingly you added for the weekend, Shotty Snipers. Fan-bloody-tastic a wonderful weekend treat…

Going back to the single player. How is it in Halo 4 that 343i told a good story with some depth and developing interest with some actual emotion compared to the total -Yoink- that is Halo 5? I have never felt so let down and so disappointed by a game in my entire life. I wanted to know the story but getting there was the equivalent of driving round the M25 (for reference its the motorway/highway that rings around London, nothing to see but tarmac are -Yoink- cars). The entire thing lacked depth, personality, in all honestly it felt like a Call of Duty campaign, lifeless nothing just you added loved characters thrown in to get the fans.

Those are my personal feelings about Halo 5, however I fully agree with this review http://www.engadget.com/2015/10/29/halo-5-guardians-combat-devolved/.

After Halo 4 I really expected more, so many people said 343 ruined Halo but I disagreed however with the Halo 5 I can only agree. It feels like 343i came to my house and took a -Yoink- on my door step and that -Yoink- was Halo 5. It would not surprise me in the slightest if Halo 6 was 90% multiplayer and the single player lasted all of 25 minutes. It just feels like pandering to the masses to sell games like the CoD series. Halo has always been about the lore, the single player and being the Master Chief, telling a GOOD well written story. As seen in Halo 1 - 4, Reach, ODST and Wars. Halo 5 does not deserve to be among those titles. To top it off the £200 collectors edition no -Yoink!- disc? I know 343 fixed it but seriously!! On top of that the so called ‘steel book’ the case doesnt fit inside and there is no where for the disc to go. You -Yoinked!- up.

To top things of, when after 3 games I was sick of Warzone I fancied playing some Team Heavies on Halo 4, I was surprised to find the Halo 4 servers are ‘Unavailable’ I do not think that is a coincidence.

Being a massive Halo fan since CE I am disappointed, disheartened and dont even know if I will bother with Halo 6 at this rate.

I’m really glad someone else was frustrated with the massive flop of Halo 5 like I am. It’s unfortunate, though, that 343i will most likely not hear us and our concerns because money will tell them that they are doing fine. Sales tell them all the information that they need, so us true fans don’t have a voice.

I skipped on Halo 5 and instead watched the campaign on YouTube. That was probably the best decision, because Halo 5’s campaign was absolute garbage. In every main series Halo game, Chief and the UNSC managed to actually do SOMETHING worthwhile to call the end good. Halo 1 was the destruction of the Halo ring, Halo 2 was the death of Tartarus and High Charity, Halo 3 was the destruction of the Ark, and Halo 4 had the death of the Didact. The only thing that happened in Halo 5 was that Cortana, who is now evil for… some reason, became essentially like a goddess. Absolutely no victory was had for mankind or for the Chief in that game, and that is probably the biggest disappointment of my life. It felt more like only half a story, to be honest, because no game should ever have to end with “Oh no… the bad guy has all the power now…” Like, in a saga about a super soldier who literally destroys entire ships and ringworlds, the creator should never end on a note as sour as 343 ended on.

Honestly, I’d love to have the forum ninjas (if they still exist, I don’t use the forums much anymore) personally tell those at 343’s story division that they messed this game up royally. Heck, they’ve messed this entire franchise up with this garbage story telling. Like, AIs turn evil? Hasn’t that been done in a lot of sci-fi movies before? Cortana turned Skynet, anyone? It’s just ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous.

Halo 5 isn’t disappointing in my opinion it’s just that the campaign is short

“I am FAR from happy.” - I’m gonna be the cynic here and pose the timeless question; why should we care?

“Finished in less than 5 hours on normal” - If it takes you any MORE than 5 hours to finish you should see a doctor immediately (sorry I had to).

“Halo 4, which I found to be one of the best in the series” - Sorry, are you perhaps talking about an entirely different series called “Halo”? You must be, surely.

“I have never felt so let down and so disappointed by a game in my entire life.” - I’m guessing you have never played Destiny?

“in all honestly it felt like a Call of Duty campaign, lifeless nothing just you added loved characters thrown in to get the fans.” - I, and many others would agree that there is a very vast majority of people who couldn’t care less about the story. Sorry guys. I’m here for the multiplayer (even though I suck at it).

“It feels like 343i came to my house and took a -Yoink- on my door step and that -Yoink- was Halo 5” - the only difference being is that -Yoink- would be free, and there is more ways to play with it. Probably tastes better, too (citation needed).

“I am disappointed, disheartened and dont even know if I will bother with Halo 6 at this rate.” - You thought Halo 4 was one of the best in the series so I don’t see much room for disappointment on your side.

“After Halo 4 I really expected more” - Yeah, now I am 100% convinced we are not talking about the same line of Halo games.

“All we got was 4 different types of 4 player Slayer and shockingly you added for the weekend, Shotty Snipers. Fan-bloody-tastic a wonderful weekend treat…” - Hey, quality over quantity! What’s that, you say? They completely missed quality AND quality…? My oh my.

Halo 5 lacks a variety of game modes

Yet you care enough to post a point by point reply.

LOL

Halo 4 was one of the worst halos

There’s no reason for you to care but its a review, or sorts. I really enjoyed Halo 4, it updated the Halo series and I found it very enjoyable. Wrong about it being the best, that would probably be Halo 3 imo.

The point is the vast majority of people play or played halo for the campaign story, not the mindless repetitive multiplayer. Halo: CE had to multiplayer (unless on PC), Halo 2 was limited/very new multiplayer, Halo 3 the focus was still on the campaign. The actual interesting part of the game…

Destiny wasnt that bad, just got boring pretty fast.

As SoSeriousCyrus said, when 6 comes out I probably won’t bother buying it, just watch the campaign to finish the story.

i can understand why you have said that, but me personally i enjoyed the campaign but i feel it was far too short, i just hope and pray that the halo 6 campaign makes up for this and gives us a good story.

Ah, but you see; I know that my opinion doesn’t matter and is merely subjective while the OP seems very convinced that their opinion holds weight. And don’t get me wrong, I like Halo 4, but it is heavily flawed. Same for games like Sky rim, ME3 etc. And I mostly posted that for my own amusement, again, I don’t expect people to care.

As I said its a review. Sorry if I feel strongly about something… I am fully entitled to feel that way. I was looking for some discussion to see if I have missed something that could improve my opinion of the game.

why exactly is this in the halo 4 forum?

I like Halo 5 more than Halo 4 and I liked Halo 4 a lot.

Because I was quite drunk when I post this.
