Halo 4 got ideas from RAGE?

I was playing RAGE today, and noticed these…

Hardlight shield = Authority Shield?

Spartan Ops = Legends of the Wasteland?

…just a coincidence? Something else? Also, the Authority armor in RAGE looks similar to Locus (Gungnir?) in my opinion, ut I could be wrong.

Perhaps, but neither of these concepts are particularly original no matter which way you look.

At any rate I was not expecting such similarities with such a recent title, curious find OP.

A “light shield” isn’t exactly a new idea and even so, being inspired by new ideas isn’t a bad thing and other developers can think up new ways to use those ideas that can be beneficial to their gameplay or to gaming in general as they can show a new way at using those ideas.

Besides, half of Halo is linked to the Aliens movie.

I guess its possible that 343 took cues from RAGE, I’m personally just glad that someone finally compared halo to a game OTHER than call of duty for once.

There is nothing new under the sun.

I’m not saying this is a bad things guys, 343 may or may not have taken great ideas and made them better with Halo. i personally found this awesome as LoTw was amazing, and those shields were always fun to blow up :slight_smile:

Jetpack = Wing Cap

Infection = Zombies

Look hard enough, and you can connect anything to anything. :stuck_out_tongue:

^This, and there’s also the nearly 4 years of development that have gone into Halo 4. Now I’m sure Rage had a length dev process as well, but I believe this to be a case of “convergent evolution”. :slight_smile:

You’re completely missing the point. In my second post I explained that if they are based on said RAGE aspects, than I have very high hopes for Halo 4 as I enjoyed both portions of RAGE. I feel like you came here to senselessly bash me as if I was saying “CoD = Halo because you can shoot a firearm”, why would a Monitor do that?

I assume Cobb’s was making assumptions which isn’t good but theres been so much “oh they’re copying cod” and “it doesn’t feel anything like halo” talk that I can see why he would think you were saying the same thing.

I didn’t come here to senselessly bash anyone. I was actually joking around, hence the “:P” at the end of my post. Sorry if I offended you, bro. :\

The similarity between the HLS and AS is incredible. Either 343 liked the design and forerunner-ized it, or it is just a major coincidence.

First off Spartan Ops is nothing like the RAGE feature you linked to, both are CO-OP but one is 2 player and one is up to 4 player. Spartan Ops is using brand new environments not connected to the main Campaign what so ever and its delivered over 10 weeks, apart from the CO-OP aspect there is no connection. The shield comparison is just silly, both are shield’s and that’s where the connection ends.

I think you misunderstood what he was saying. He wasn’t trying to bash you. Merely reinforcing the point that there are a lot of similar gameplay elements in other games.

Case in point :slight_smile:

Doesn’t mean I’m saying one copied from the other. Merely pointing it out.

I’d say 95% of games are unoriginal.

Every studio plays and looks at other games for ideas and innovations, there really isn’t too many new ideas you can put into a game really lol.

Unless of course you go all whacky and make a game so unique and weird it either A. is unplayable and B. Scares people off.

:smiley:

Well going by JJ’s logic, the OP seems to be looking hard for offense.

But… Jackal shield, and the other one isn’t a really good picture.

wtf not? a great deal of the game was influenced (or copyed) from aliens aswell so I think the idea of people saying that halo copies from CoD is kind of redundant compared to everything else they were inspired by (stole).

A shield made of light is a tried and true thing in Sci-fi, so nothing new there.

But I agree, I’m sick of the CoD comparisons…

Pretty much this.

I swear all the mainstream shooters are looking alike nowadays with H4 being the most recent example.

I remember a time where shooter innovation was at its highest peak, every time I bought a new game it actually had new mechanics and it wasnt just a re-skinned/tweaked version of the other shooter mechanics.

Now its like every shooter stresses the same thing, “Player customization”, “Intense thrill Ride campaigns”, “Unlockable BS”, “Abilities/killstreaks to make you feel OP”, its like what happened to the innovation in the shooter genre? Whens the last time you heard about a “Death-match shooter”? When is the last time you heard about a “Real tactical shooter?” When is the last time you heard " NEW Unreal/Sci-fi shooter"? When is the last time you heard a dev say “We wanted to go on out on a limb and create something different”? Not very often, because it seems like everyone is sticking to the formula that currently works.

-Yoink-, I hope its just because the current console generation is coming to an end, or the shooter fanbase is going to start to get tired of playing the same class-based customization focused shooter. Thank god for CS:GO and Dust 514 for being DIFFERENT from the pack, I will be checking out both.
