Halo 4 getting Micro-transactions!!!

This is disappointing, I would of preferred more in-game items that require effort and skill to earn, not with my wallet. I wanted skins for beating the campaign on Legendary or getting all the achievements.

It is good to know instead of fixing custom games and features, we will get more DLC for weapon skins.

“Microtransactions will be a staple of future games, if recent comments from Electronic Arts and Ubisoft are any indication. EA chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen said in February that consumers are “enjoying and embracing” microtransactions, while Ubisoft Toronto manager Jade Raymond said last month that microtransactions are essential to the future of AAA games.”

Where are they getting this from? I’d certainly like to meet someone who actually enjoys spending their own money on this kind of stuff.
And why are they essential to the future of AAA games? I’m willing to bet that the gaming industry would survive perfectly well without them.

This all reeks of game developers trying to justify extorting more money from their consumer base, and I don’t like it.

Why not just make these a free incentive to buy map packs, a potential second season of Spartan Ops or something?

Yeah, I think I’m going to have to throw in the towel on Halo 4 and 343 in general. They’re clearly not caring about things that WE want and looking at what COD is doing with this. Game Developers need to get it through their heads that the COD community isn’t up for grabs, you just can’t take them, but instead they’d rather risk the entire Halo community for a few spur of the moment COD players hopping on their game hoping to transition.

Today is a sad day.

Would be a million times better if they would include stuff like this into map packs. Maybe more people would actually buy them.

Well someone obviously has not been pay attention to popular gaming trends in the last 3 years.

TF2 makes globs of money via micro transactions. Farmville, Dota 2, League of Legends, world of warcraft, Heroes of newerth, Saint’s row the third, Guild Wars 2, and countless other games.

Micro transactions are good things. As long as people cannot pay for power.

Yet when there are bigger concerns then giving the Storm Rifle a new skin or something, like Customs, they can wait.

yes 343 go deeper even more deeper into the pool of mediocrity, every passing day you forget your past and you’re molded into the average twitchy shooter and soon you will be forgotten…

No, I hate micro transactions in every game, its a cheap and stupid way to get money and why would i waste my money on something that doesn’t matter, unlike my friend who has probably spent £100 on stuff for TF2

Im with you on this one. Provided people cant pay to win i think micro transactions are fine. Blops does it fairly well. The issue is though, its these first tentative steps into it, and do you really trust devs not to make a quick buck further down the line by charging for soopa insternt def rhey dlc?

Not entirely. You can set different teams to work on various things. Like the Art team won’t be much help with adding custom options. It’s just not in their skill set. So why not have them work on a skin?

I see Halo 5 having them, but I don’t think Halo 4 will, (even though it says Halo 4 in the article I think it means the Halo franchise going forward).

While true, I personally see this whole deal of misguided priorities. Allegedly, 343i know that people want better Custom game options and new gametypes. What happens then? “Oh, you guys want new skins and armor you have to pay for?”.

I don’t get the hate about microtransactions now. What’s the problem here? You are buying optional cosmetic stuff that won’t give you any advantages in a fight at all. I don’t see the problem here as long you can’t buy a sniper at spawn.

While I don’t agree with microtransactions ( I would prefer them as achievable awards ) I don’t mind them, since they aren’t altering the gameplay.

It’s a good idea, as long as it’s restricted to cosmetic upgrades. But I stretched my wallet to buy Halo 4 itself.

I’m not paying any more until the next one.

Fair enough. As long as it sticks to trivial things such as weapon skins, armour, emblems etc. I can live with it.

That being said, there are much more pressing issues at hand e.g. custom game options and the like, so I’m quite perplexed as to why these aren’t being dealt with first.

I don’t mind micro-transactions; I’ve been playing slowly because I don’t want to hit 130. If a level cap micro transaction was available at this point I would pay.
