OP: Your disappointment is as justified as a noob who gets banned from Reach for modding the game. 343 not once, but twice stated that there would not be a new trailer, I understand that it would’ve been nice, but stop crying about it, sheesh.
Back On Topic: Congrats to ME3 for winning, I wish Halo 4 one, but hey I’m glad we even made the list. lol.

Don’t get your -Yoink!- in a wad; geeze. I was a little disappointing with the fact that there was no trailer, but I see no reason to get aggravated at them.

But who do they need to get the word out to right now? Do you think it would matter to the majority of gamers if you told them Halo 4 was being made? What would they do with that information for the next year?
You’re being a bit overzealous with the belief that it matters if anyone knows Halo 4 is being made at this very second. Do you expect everyone will drop everything and start queuing up at the store to buy it at this very moment? The people who Halo 4 matters to RIGHT NOW are they people who are already on the forums, discussing a game that is a year away. To everyone else it wont matter until it comes time to pre-order the game, which will be much closer to launch for most people.
They already announced that Halo 4 was being made at E3. You don’t start mass advertising until it’s close to the launch, otherwise you’re just wasting ad money and buzz. You can pretty much bet that as we go into 2012 that the hype train will start building at GDC, CES, or E3 and roll right into launch, just like they did with Halo 3 and Reach.

Yes, it does. Please do.
Everyone, calm down. The VGA’s are not the “GODLY” culmination of gaming. It has its flaws and I’m not entirely concerned about not seeing a trailer during its live broadcast. Halo 4 could be announced during the commercial break of “Days Of Our Lives” and still rock the house.
Not showing us a trailer is a big risk, I’ll give you that. But that by no means says anything about the game. 343i has a lot of balls by doing this, but with what they’ve done so far, I’m willing to go on a little faith.
Part of me is happy they didn’t make a new trailer for the VGA’s. It shows 343i is not afraid of what their games hype is or is not. That they have no need to throw a game in your face at every big event just to sell copies, to get people hyped or over hyped. Of course i could be wrong and they may have just not had a trailer completed in time… doubt that.

Many casual gamers simply won’t be following games online, the best way to advertise a game would be through TV commercials.

I totally agree with that. Call of Duty is the best example of how well a TV ad can reach the casual gamer market, but I read your original post to say that they needed to be hyping and pushing the game for casuals now. Sorry if I read that wrong.
I was also not advocating the advertising on just the dashboard, I meant that a simple trailer launch there wouldn’t be a terrible thing(especially on Christmas, if you’re listening 343i ;))
