Hey Guys,
I’ve got an idea for a gametype that might bring back the players discouraged by Halo: Reach.
Gametype: Retro (or something like that)
[1]You start the multiplayer search[/li]
[2]You get matched up[/li]
[3]You vote for Halo: CE, Halo 2, or Halo 3 [or Halo: Reach][/li]
[4]Game is chosen[/li]
[5]You vote on Gametype+Map or Gametype THEN Map[/li]
[6]Game starts[/li]
The mechanics of the game would be EXACTLY like those of the original game that was chosen.
Now there could be issues like:
Well how would all of those games fit on one disc?!
SOLUTION 1: Dual-disc set.
SOLUTION 1A: One disc would have Halo 4 on it. The other would have downloads for Halo CE, Halo 2, and Halo 3.
SOLUTION 1B: One disc would have Halo 4 on it. The other would have the Retro gametype.
SOLUTION 2A: Inside the game’s case would be one of those slips for a free download. This slip would let you download Halo CE, Halo 2, and Halo 3 in full.
SOLUTION 2B: Inside the game’s case would be one of those slips for a free download. This slip would let you download Halo CE, Halo 2, and Halo 3 in a format that would only work with Halo 4. [This could be a good idea because you would avoid a loss in Halo CE-Halo 3 sales].
Well how would the servers work for this?
SOLUTION 1: Well… maybe they would work without a problem, I don’t know how they run.
SOLUTION 2: Halo CE never had servers, Halo 2 has had its servers shut down. Well we’re in a new age of technology; I doubt running these older games would be a problem for our newer computers. I mean, hell, you could run many different game instances of Halo 2 on one server for goodness sake.
SOLUTION 3: Players host the games. [Please don’t choose this… I hate lag, we hate lag.]
Well come on now, that would be a LOT of programming for a gametype that might not be all that popular.
ARGUMENT 1: The games have already been created, just adapt them!
ARGUMENT 2: You guys have lost a LOT of people from the drastic changes from Halo 3 to Halo: Reach. I’ve heard plenty of people say that they just want everybody to go play Halo 3 again, but nobody wants to leave Reach because… it’s the newest one! If you put this gametype on Halo 4, you would have the massive community of Halo presented with the choice to play their favorite past games!
Let me know what you guys think… I think this is my stroke of genius for the day, but maybe it’s a stupid idea. This is all to your discretion.
